I'll Take Everything Lyrics

Oh these feet carry me far
Oh, my body oh so tired
Mouth is dry, hardly speak
Holy Spirit rise in me
Here I swear, forever is just a minute to me

I'll take everything ... in this life
I'll join everyone when I die
Have my body. Have my mind. Have my coat. Take my time
These I borrow. Borrowed so far
Turn to dust. Fall apart.
Here I swear, forever is just a minute to me

I'll take everything ... in this life
I'll join everyone ... and understand
'Cause all men die. 'Cause all men die.
I'll take everything ... in this life
I'll join everyone ... since I'm gonna die
I'll take everything ... in this life
I'll join everyone, 'cause all men die

Loose Tongue, I am not sure what is Communist or Marxist in this song. To me, this song is (a rather bleak) call to make the most of one's life. I am agnostic, but this song does not even bother me. He is calling on a Holy Spirit to guide him, and I understand that when people feel desperate or have unanswered questions, they will turn to God to guide them. I completely understand.

You could say that there is a bit of nihilism in his emphasis that we all turn to dust. Really, he says that our BODIES turn to dust, not ourselves. Again, I am agnostic, so I am conflicted regarding feelings about whether there is a soul that is separate from the body. That is the main reason I am not atheist! But this song is deep and beautiful to me and makes me think. Isn't that what good music is all about?

I think he’s saying his life has been hard, he’s travelled so far and has become weary of this world. He calls to the Holy Spirt to carry him through but he says he’ll take it all, all of life’s challenges because forever is just a minute. This is just a small spec of time in all of eternity and when he dies he’ll become one with all of those who have been struggling alongside him.

I think it's pretty simple really. I think it's just about living your life to the fullest by appreciating everything, experiencing as much as you can and taking every good opportunity that you can get. It's about realizing that your body is a borrowed gift from God and that life on Earth is only a tiny drop of water in the vast sea of eternity. Take in all that you can because "all men die".
