One Of The Brightest Stars Lyrics
One day your story will be told
One of the lucky ones who's made his name
One day they'll make you glorious,
Beneath the lights of your deserved fame.
And it all comes round
Once in a lifetime like it always does
Everybody loves you 'cause you've taken a chance Out on a dance to the moon, too soon
And they'll say told you so
We were the ones who saw you first of all
We always knew that you were one of the brightest stars
One day they'll tell you that you've changed
Though they're the ones who seem to stop and stare.
One day you'll hope to make the grave
Before the papers choose to send you there
And it all comes round
Once in a lifetime like it always does
Nobody loves you 'cause you've taken a chance
Out on a dance to the moon, too soon
And they'll say told you so
We were the ones who saw you first of all
We always knew that you were one of the brightest stars
And yes they told you so
We were the ones who saw you first of all
We always knew that you were one of the brightest stars
One of the lucky ones who's made his name
One day they'll make you glorious,
Beneath the lights of your deserved fame.
Once in a lifetime like it always does
Everybody loves you 'cause you've taken a chance Out on a dance to the moon, too soon
And they'll say told you so
We were the ones who saw you first of all
We always knew that you were one of the brightest stars
Though they're the ones who seem to stop and stare.
One day you'll hope to make the grave
Before the papers choose to send you there
Once in a lifetime like it always does
Nobody loves you 'cause you've taken a chance
Out on a dance to the moon, too soon
We were the ones who saw you first of all
We always knew that you were one of the brightest stars
We were the ones who saw you first of all
We always knew that you were one of the brightest stars

"One day they'll tell you that you've changed Though they're the ones who seem to stop and stare. One day you'll hope to make the grave Before the papers choose to send you there"
A day in the life?
I think this song is about James told from the point of view of someone close to him. Maybe since he's gained fame, those who believed in him early on in his career have told him lately that they always knew he would make it, and so he wrote this as a tribute to those people.
I think this song isn't a tribute. It's more like "now that i'm famous you love me" since he also refers to everyone turning their back once he wouldn't be popular anymore.
a brilliant record all in all. the only thing that i don't like about the record is that it has much about the problems of being famous, which is kinda hard to relate to. although the songs and melodies in itself are incredible, this one in particular.
Per an interview with James Blunt...
Q: Tell me about the song "One of the Brightest Stars." A: Yes, it's a very sweet, lost little song. It's about perception, really. How people's perception can change and shift. It's just a really sweet song. I didn't feel like I had to try to force it to be loud and proud. But keep it simple. The message comes through to people through its subtlety.

i agree with tin14man in the fact that its about a point of view from a friend or family and they told him that he would be famous "one of the brightest stars"
I think this is about childhood good and bad friends, I think the good friends are saying we told you could do it, and we saw your potential first, and the other friends are saying you've changed you're stupid now,,,,but underlined in that is thier jealousy that the "star" made something of herself or himself.
At first i thought it is a song about how people around james supported him when he was not famous but still saw him as "one of the brightest stars". but then after reading it thoroughly i got a totally different meaning.
"Everybody loves you 'cause you've taken a chance Out on a dance to the moon, too soon" "They told you so, we were the one who saw you first at all. we always knew that you were one of the brightest stars." the "THEY" is normal people like us, who love and support james after he got famous. People who love him for his great talent got themselves tagged as tasteful james blunt fans. so nice a name right? "
"they'll tell you you've changed, tho they are the one who stop and stare (at the beginning we appreciated him so much)"
however after He got super duper famous afterwards because of our "support" and got loads of tour and concerts and cds and blah blah commercial stuff to do he is then accused of being "a bit commercial now".
It not only happens on james but almost every celebrity, no matter who you are - actor, actress, singer or models.... the craze for a celebrity could be so ephemeral that today they love you as hell then at the next moment they abandon you for someone else and say that it's cause 'you've changed."
sad reality..perceptions changes.
Fading glory..
