New York City Lyrics
Waking up in New York City
Dreaming about how it all began
Bright lights, big city
New Amsterdam and the Indians
you called me in tears
and it looks like rain
I walk south
through our playground
civilization's honeycomb
taxi, taxi, taxi
warm and pungent seats
take me across the bridge
i can't be late
I'm heavy with you through cold morning avenues
rushing with the rabble under gluttonous swelling skies
I'll come to you
over clandestine sidewalks
I'll come to you
CRASHING through dead leaves
CRASH-ING!!!!!!
i'll come to you
counting cracks in the sidewalks
i'll come to you
CRASHING
the crosswalk says stop
but there you are
flickers of a picture
between the static of cars
and it's a relief
that these walls are so high
like arms that hold us together
waiting for a green light
go- go- go-
STOP!
go- go- go-
STOP!
We embrace in the heart of our city
On wet broken sidewalks we're free
Dreaming about how it all began
Bright lights, big city
New Amsterdam and the Indians
you called me in tears
and it looks like rain
I walk south
through our playground
civilization's honeycomb
taxi, taxi, taxi
warm and pungent seats

I disagree, with MaxH. Nathan Winneke stated this about the album, "A Natural Death is about the futility and arrogance of creation and destruction, the overwhelming scale of space and time, and the brutal majesty of nature, the horror of birth and the beauty of death. Everyone who will ever live will die a natural death, and will soon after be forgotten for eternity." Tl;dr: Most of the songs in this album have to do with death.
The phrase "I walk south" is an old term used to describe someone going insane. The song is most likely about a guy murdering (or at least attempting to murder) his girlfriend after chasing her around New York City. The video may or may not be related to the song.
That would contradict the ending: "We embrace..." unless in his vision, his "embracing" her is him actually murdering her.

My favorite song on the Album. Music video was a bit odd though. Meaning is pretty obvious, life in New York City.
odd? what the fuck do you expect.
The slow part of the song is kind of a downer for me. Nonetheless a great song.
i like this song but the video is kind of retarded...it wasnt even shot in nyc..the whole 80's theme is cute
The music video was amazing....especially in the end when they guy's cord pops out of the wall after all of the build up. It's so....dramatic.
to me this song is about how society has grown into this disgusting mass of machines, the petty problems people think are important and how we came to this point.
the song paints a picture of a vast city in your head, where everyone is on the go. no one takes the time to stop and think anymore, they need to be progressing their own selfish lives, cause truthfully thats what society has told us is happy. the green light flashes, so you better get going boy.
another point worth noting is, as we progress with our technology and our societys ideals, were losing what used to be important ages ago, love being one of them
after listening to it, it could be worth noting that a bit of true love ties in with this song. in between all the bullshit, there is love. love is a great feeling, and a life of love is worth living, because at the end of life, you are gone. all your material possessions will be of no value to you.
