Burn Back The Sun Lyrics

I take a walk in the bitter cold,
I try to see your face,
The way it used to be,
The sky was never grey,
There was a time when I let you in,
You turned my night to day,
But I turned you away

(Chorus:)
Burn back the sun,
Bring back the fire once
Blazing inside this hollow cage
Burn back the sun,
You were the only one
To love me with passion's quiet rage

I have tasted the apathy,
It's bitter on my lips,
I am not who I used to be,
Betrayal with a kiss,
Open mouth for the prodigal,
You kept the flame alive,
You keep this flame alive

(Chorus)

Rage, quiet rage

(Chorus 2x)

What I get out of this song is that a once strong Christian turned away from God, even though God has been so good to that person. And it seems like the Christian doesn't know God anymore, so the Christian wants God to rekindle the flame that once burned in his heart.

Another well-written song from DD. I agree with zackacbee (didn't mean to rhyme there :P), but I'm going to try to go a bit more into it. So, the hollow cage would be the person's heart, which feels empty without God's love in it (Chorus). The person doesn't like feeling apathetic towards God ("I have tasted...lips") and feels like a different person after betraying God's love ("I am not...kiss"). There's hope at the end, where the person realizes that God hasn't allowed the flame within his/her heart to extinguish, even though the person turned away from God ("You kept...this flame alive"). So, what exactly does "Burn back the sun" mean?

You guys covered what I got out of this song almost to the T.

@fire: What I think "Burn back the sun" means (and I agree, it is rather confusing if only in the wording) is that it is asking for God to BRING back the sun in a way.

"Burn it so hot that it ignites in my heart." Is the best way I can describe it. True, the flame never extinguished, but he/she wants it to burn as brightly and warmly as it did once before. He/she wants to be engulfed in it and be restored.

i would say everything you guys have said, this is such a great song, and today i have especially been listening to it all day i just set it on repeat on my ipod, and even though the lyrics are simple and fairly short, i just am brought back to the first verse, and it just applies to my life so much....but the "burn back the sun" i think means burn it back hotter cuz the grey skies that are over me now, are just making me miserable.

Song Meaning

The sun might represent the source of God's love. God loved the singer so much that it left a lasting mark. Now he wants to love God back that much.

Or maybe the sun is himself, representing the fact that he was living his life and loving himself as though everything revolved around him. Now he is recognizing that there is something even hotter [greater] than the sun [himself] and he is only a small part of a greater universe [creation] that he will never know fully about... This greater thing [God] can burn [love] the sun [him] even more than any amount of heat [love] the sun [he] can generate from within...

IDK I just made that up... It's a work in progress.

My Interpretation

yea i would say everyone has hit this songs meaning on the nose. I love this song and group. they are very similar to Skillet and Thousand Foot Krutch. All this person wants is God to bring back the fire in his heart to live and love for God his Savior.

Wow! The lyrics Bring back the fire once Blazing inside this hollow cage

Thats what i first thought it said then when i got the lyrics from somewhere else and it said

Bring back the fire wands Blazing inside this heart-o-cage

I was thinking what the crap is that supposed to mean?

But I love thisa song and it is awesome and obviously about someone who turned away from God.
