I was nurtured
I was sheltered,
I was curious and young.
I was searchin' for that something,
Tryin' to find it on the run.
Oh and just when I stopped lookin',
I saw just how far I'd come.
In this life
In this life

You give me love,
You give me light,
Show me everythings been happenin',
I've opened up my eyes,
I'm followin'
3 steps fight an honest fight, (oh)
2 hearts, they can start a fire, (yeah yeah)
1 love is all I need in this life (oh)

Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah
In this life

I have faltered
I have stumbled,
I have found my feet again.
I've been angry,
And I've been shaken,
Found a new place to begin.
And my persistence to make a difference,
Has led me safe into your hands.
In this life
In this life

You give me love,
You give me light,
Show me everythings been happenin',
I've opened up my eyes,
I'm followin'
3 steps fight an honest fight, (oh)
2 hearts, they can start a fire, (yeah yeah)
1 love is all I need in this life (oh)

In this life
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah

I was put here for a reason,
I was born into this world.
And I'm living, and I'm believing
That I was meant to be your girl

In this life
In this life

You give me love,
You give me light,
Show me everythings been happenin',
I've opened up my eyes,
I'm followin'
3 steps fight an honest fight, (oh)
2 hearts, they can start a fire, (yeah yeah)
1 love is all I need in this life (oh)

3 steps fight an honest fight (oh)
2 hearts, they can start a fire (yeah yeah)
1 love is all I need
In this life (oh)

Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah
In this life
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah
In this life

In this life
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah

I think this is a great song! It's a grown up song, about how life changes you. Delta's new image is great - She's just changed in life, and so her image has changed with that, There's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah i agree, amandalittle... she's trying to shed her conservative image by wearing skimpy clothes and her fans have complained she doesn't even sing In This Life live even though the single's out... all she talks about is tabloid junk. And I can't stand who she's with.. and he's writing 90% of her songs now.

The bside Take Me Home isn't great either... it's a "dance" song, does not fit her at all. She claimed to hate that type of music when Sony tried to make her do it in 2001 (Here I Am original on the I Don't Care single was dance). Guess that isn't so true huh?

Also, lyrically In This Life and Take Me Home aren't great.

    Too bad.

I think this song has some amazing lyrics

i'm not a huge delta fan so i dont really notice or care that she's changed her image, but i like this song and i think the point of this site is to point out the meaning in songs not to point out what you dislike about the artist

well fair enough metoyou.. but u proberbly didnt realise that u didnt "point out" the mening of the song either.. all u said was that u liked it.. and that u dont care that shes changed.

metoyou - it's our opinion and her image goes along with everything she does, so if we want to discuss it we will. Besides if you'd read what I wrote, I said the lyrics were weak to the song. That's song discussion.

And you aren't a Delta fan anyway so what does it matter to you?

Amanda- yeah, exactly... apparently Delta is whatever her record label feels like she should be. :( Image in 2001 was very Britney Spears. Her song What Kind Of Girl sounds sooo much like Britney! Yikes. If she'd been successful with I Don't Care who knows what her music would sound like now?

Besides, she won't sing In This Life on TV shows. She uses the media talking about her new image to promote her album!! Everyone noticed that, even her fanboard.

yeh i have noticed that she hasnt sang on tv i wish i could meet her and get her to go back to the way she used to be. Personally i think she had alot more fans then than she does now.

Just wondering.. did you read the interview in the cosmopoliton?.. and another thing.. with all the interviews on the radio she has answered different things..for the same questions.. what does that have to say about her image

Amandalittle and Pinkbutterfly I completely agree with you. When I saw her I was like: 'What? That's not Delta!'. The songs aren't great. THe lyrics are bad. And I don't know if it's Brian's influence on her, or if she's just become a total media whore getting plastic surgery (cheek implants) to help promote her sexuality. She's lost me as a fan.

And to discuss the song meaning, Well it's pretty obvious what it's about in my opinion. I just wish she was like she used to be.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
