When the Day Met the Night Lyrics

When the moon fell in love with the sun
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night

When the sun found the moon
She was drinking tea in a garden
Under the green umbrella trees
In the middle of summer

When the moon found the sun
He looked like he was barely hanging on
But her eyes saved his life
In the middle of summer (summer)

In the middle of summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer (summer)
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer, summer, summer, summer
All was golden when the day met the night

So he said, "Would it be all right
If we just sat and talked for a little while
If in exchange for your time
I give you this smile?"

So she said, "That's OK
As long as you can make a promise
Not to break my little heart
Or leave me all alone in the summer."

Well he was just hanging around
Then he fell in love
And he didn't know how
But he couldn't get out
Just hanging around
Then he fell in love

In the middle of summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night
Summer, summer, summer, summer

When the moon fell in love with the sun
All was golden in the sky
All was golden when the day met the night

Summer, summer, summer, summer
In the middle of summer, summer, summer, summer
The middle of summer, summer, summer, summer
The middle of summer, summer, summer, summer
In the middle of

No metaphors guys - although it makes a nice story. The guys say that the song was written as a "fairy tale" in their backyard in summer as the sun was setting. They thought it would be fun to write a song about the sun and moon falling in love (really). The moon is always in the sky, so the sun will eventually leave her alone - even in the middle of summer. Is is nice allegory anyway and it makes a cute love song :) This is my favourite song on the album!!! Band has said they used Alice in Wonderland (obviously) and other fairy tales as their inspiration.

What they didn't say is they obviously also used a lot of Shrooms / LSD / MDMA for their inspiration for this album.

in my opinion.. i think the moon is metaphorical to a sad guy. or someone who's been unlucky in love. and the sun is supposed to be someone who shined as bright as the sun.

because if you think about it any other way, the song doesn't make any sense really.

i can't wait until thier new cd comes out. it's taking way too long and it better be as good as this song. ;)

Metaphorically speaking, the moon and the sun is used in a lot of their new songs. Really different to their old songs, still alright.

I love how in Nine In The Afternoon it goes, "your eyes are the size of the moon" and then in this song the moon represents a girl "the sun" falls in love with. Clearly the moon = his girlfriend...at least IMO. And from this song, it seems that she saved him. PATD's older songs were definately not this happy sounding before, or love songs for that matter. Obv "the moon" changed his outlook on life maybe, or at least the way Ryan writes songs.

Also, another moon reference is in Northern Downpour..."Hey moon, please forget to fall down. Hey moon, don't you go down." That reminds me of how you don't want the night to end, therefore you don't want the moon to fall down (and the sun to rise). Or if the moon is a metaphor for the girl he loves it could be that he doesn't want her to leave.

I love this song so much. I love the new maturity in Brendon's voice and the direction that Ryan's lyrics have taken.

This song is straight up awesome. Fucking amazing. Love the new CD, so much more mature and varied in sound, even though it's the same ol' Panic doing what they do best—crafting pop hooks like no other.

Just one point of confusion: Who is the boy and who is the girl?

This is a pretty song--one of the best off the new CD. I like their new sound a lot. It sounds less like Fall Out Boy and more like Panic at the Disco.

I'm surprised there's no more elaborated posts about this juicy song :D

I know I bashed a bit on other post but this CD is actually growing on me just because things have changed for me , and now I kinda get it ;-)

Ok back to the song, it's one of the most sweet cute metaphors I've heard in a long time, to me it truly symbolizes a relationship many of you might have been into, I've experienced that recently, I was barely hanging on when I saw "the moon" drinking tea (btw this is all best viewed from a first person angle), I just wanted to talk and enjoy her company but then I fell in love and I didn't know how . That's when my heart starts to melt.

See? Be more inspired people lol.

I wish they could make a really nice fitting video for it, keeping the sun and moon as the characters.

Ugh.

Learn English, guys. The Moon is the girl; the Sun is the guy.

"When the sun found the moon She was drinking tea in a garden" The second person would usually be referred to with a pronoun.

And plus, I don't think the sun would be walking around in her garden drinking tea, looking for people.

Likewise for the below part about when the moon found the sun.

This song is obviously about Anju and Kafei, in the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

"When the moon fell in love with the sun All was golden in the sky All was golden when the day met the night"

Their wedding masks were of the sun and the moon. Kafei, being male (just like the sun in the song), was the sun, with Anju being the moon. They fell in love, and then, they finally reunite just before the moon falls. If you save the world, the sky is all sunrise-y and gold-looking, and even if you reunite them but don't try to save the world, everything is engulfed in flames anyway, and it all looks pretty golden.

"When the sun found the moon She was drinking tea in a garden Under the green umbrella trees In the middle of summer"

You never really find out the exact story of how they met (all it says is that they were friends as children), so yeah. Not much to say about this stanza.

"When the moon found the sun He looked like he was barely hanging on But her eyes saved his life In the middle of summer"

When Anju and Kafei are reunited, Kafei shows up right before the beginning of the apocalypse, looking bedraggled, having just run there from the desert which, you know, would be pretty far away. So he probably would have been barely hanging on.

"Well, he was just hanging around Then he fell in love And he didn't know how But he couldn't get out Just hanging around Then he fell in love"

Self explanatory.

The rest of the album, if you listen closely, could actually be applied almost entirely to different parts of the game. I think the only song we found that didn't really fit was Pas de Cheval. Sorry if this doesn't make any sense. My brother and I came up with it one day just to, you know, have a laugh. If you haven't played the game, I highly recommend doing so. It's actually quite nice. Very emotional and such.

love your explanation the best
