I Sing I Swim Lyrics

When the birds are sleeping
That's when the trees sing
You left your winter clothes,
And your teeth marks in my skin

So shake the leaves, off the trees,
Watch them float down the stream
Your son, your daughter
Swimming in the water

And I miss you, even when you're around
I'm a black cloud,
Sending lightning to the ground

So darling please, show your teeth
Just one more dance to help me sleep
???, cold water eyes
Fill the past with friendly nights
Human skin, can be hard to live in
You'll feel better in the morning
Wash your hands in the lake
You've got a heart, ???

Trails lost in the snow
Make way for winter's eerie glow
And that black rock in your bedroom
I hope you'll climb it soon
In your boat, tied to a tree
I hope you'll find the sea

Throw me a dream please, it's been a dreamless sleep
For such a long time, such a long time
Sing myself awake
Watch the branches break
No one could ever take your place

Wash your face in the lake
You've got a diamond under your skin

I just discovered this band on iTunes and I'm liking them a lot. What a unique song. I've listened to it a couple times and I get a notion that the song is somehow about abortion, or at least it has a pro-life twinge to it. In the first paragraph, it sounds like they had sex or whatevs, then in the second paragraph it says "Your Son, Your Daughter, Swimming in the Water" like she has conceived. Later it says "Human skin, can be hard to live in You'll feel better in the morning Wash your hands in the lake You've got a heart, some way" as if to say she has morning sickness, or perhaps it's hard to have a teenage pregnancy or soemthing, but that the baby is human nonetheless (You've got a heart some way").

At the end it says "Wash your face in the lake You've got a diamond under your skin". It's like telling her to refresh herself, be happy, snap out of it, because children are precious. I could be wrong, it's just my interpretation. Beautiful song.

to me, this song is about someone that this person doesn't fully know, but already loves.

"i miss you even when you're around" this relates to me. all the daydreams you've had about this person, that seemed so real. and when this person is around, you hardly even communicate.

This song is my personal theme song. I have unexplainable feelings whenever I listen to it.

Every line touches my heart.

It just.. makes sense. I love you seabear.

So shake the leaves, off the trees, Watch them float down the stream [this whole lil part reminds me of someones efforts to get over a memory.. its time to get over it in a sense]

And I miss you, even when you're around I'm a black cloud, [she left- he got sad- this sounds like its about a relationship]

So darling please, show your teeth Just one more dance to help me sleep [this seems like a cry to come back]

???, cold water eyes Fill the past with friendly nights [its over- theres crying going on- all the good times you just experienced are in the past]

Human skin, can be hard to live in You'll feel better in the morning [everybody has those moments when they are about to go to bed and your just depressed as fuck- thats kinda what i got from that..that to me is the deepest line in the whole song.. "human skin, can be hard to live in"]

Sing myself awake Watch the branches break No one could ever take your place [he cant sleep, all he can think about is her and the fact that nobody could ever be as good as she was... hell never be able to have that back- its all just gone, and he has to deal with that]

Wash your face in the lake You've got a diamond under your skin [time will pass, youll get over it with time.. youll be happy again :] ]

"throw me a dream please"

I always thought it was, "Owl Girl, cold water eyes." Not positive, but that's what I assumed it was the first few times I listened to it, considering how many times Seabear mentions owls, and specifically, Owl Girl.

Personally I think this song is about someone watching another lost in a terrible depression.

The tree is symbolic of the person the singer is talking about. He's asking them to shake off the troubles and wash them away. The teeth marks represent the fight that the person once had and the singer is relating to how he misses the fight (liveliness).

The singer misses the person that they used to be even though the shell of them is still around. And he's doing whatever he can to try and bring some kind of life back "I'm a black cloud/Sending lightning to the ground". He asks, "show your teeth," as in bring some of that life back again. Fight again and the singer can stop worrying enough to get some sleep. "Human skin can be hard to live in," is representative of someone depressed over whom they've become and what a change but don't know what to do so they've basically given up. Anyway, you know where I'm going with this.

I like alot of the interpretation in these comments, but what came to my mind is that this is about mourning the loss of synergy of a relationship, being supportive / understanding and trying to get the person out of deep depression.

let me explain... when you're in a good relationship you play off your partner and you mood and enjoyment of life is enhanced by the interactions you have. I know from experience that some people have depressive periods and the other half of the partnership also looses alot by not having the personality they love around, even if the person is there.

Specifically, I thought of a long married couple who's kids have left home. The depressed person is say the home maker / child carer who's life was defined and purposful before the children left but now everything has changed. It hard to redefine yourself after all that and the world seems scary.

What I love about the song is that the other half, is clearly (to me any how) being supportive, understanding and patient and trying to get them to take the steps to get them back to their old selves.

I love the metaphors... I'm sure I don't have to explain :)
