We'll Live And Die In These Towns Lyrics

You spend your time in smokey rooms
where haggled old women with cheap perfume say
"it never happens for people like us you know"
well nothing ever happened on it`s own
and well the toilets smell of desperation
the streets all echo of aggregation
and you wonder
why you cant get no sleep
when you`ve got nothing to do,
and you`ve had nothing to eat
your life`s slipping
and sliding right out of view
and there`s absolutely nothing
that you can do, well

We`ll live and die,
We`ll live and die in these towns
Don`t let it drag you down
Don`t let it drag you down now

We`ll live and die,
We`ll live and die in these towns
Don`t let it drag you down
Don`t let it drag you down now

Dirty dishes from a tv meal
that went cold from the wind
throuh a smashed up window
You cant go out if anybody calls ya
cos you cant have a bath
when there`s no hot water
and your friends are out
on the town again
and you ask yourself if it will ever end
and it`s all too much for your head to take
just a matter of time before you break, well

We`ll live and die,
We`ll live and die in these towns
Don`t let it drag you down
Don`t let it drag you down now

We`ll live and die,
We`ll live and die in these towns
Don`t let it drag you down
Don`t let it drag you down now

Now...
Now...

We`ll live and die,
We`ll live and die in these towns
Don`t let it drag you down
Don`t let it drag you down now

We`ll live and die,
We`ll live and die in these towns
Don`t let it drag you down
Don`t let it drag you down now

'Thats Entertainment' updated for 2007. Such a good song highlighting the minutae of life and how the triviality of it all can be so demoralising but...we keep going to the end. reminds me of comedies like the Royle Family or Early Doors where these small town lives are played out to such perfection and the desperation is so brutally conveyed it doesnt seem so sad or desperate anymore.

Essential message i guess is that regardless of how boring things seem and when 'its all too much for your head to take' dont give up. Embrace the triviality and boredom but dont accept it as your lot.

I love the video for this.It matches the mood of the song perfectly, it's the type of song perfect for listening to while watching the streets go past from the passenger seat of a car at night.. just thinking.

It really represents the feelings of post-industrial working class britain. The hopelessness and desperation brought about through the decimation of industry and the livlihoods of so many midlanders. I don't think the line 'we'll live and die in these towns' is literal its not about the place its about the attitude. If you don't change your attitude you will die this way. You have to help yourself, if you do there are plenty of people to help you.

I think the line is 'streets echo of aggrevation' cos that actually makes sense

I agree with jackflashjess but, I kind of think, maybe it's not that deep... Could it just be about living in a crappy area and you know you're never going to get out but you've just got to get on with it. 'don't let it drag you down now'

It is like a new That's Entertainment, with a hint of Going Underground.

Meaning's fairly obvious. perfectly describes Britain post Thatcherism.

Whilst I can't directly relate to much of the imagery of this song, I can relate to its message, which for me seems to be that, whilst you may be caught in adverse circumstances don't despair and don't renounce hope. I like the line, 'Well nothing ever happened on its own'.

Whilst we may live and die in these towns, we also make these towns what they are, and can define what they can become. There is a hint of hope amongst all the bleak imagery, and I think this is reflected in the music itself, which I find really invigorating (currently using it to get me all pumped up before heading to work!).

Each generation needs its own voices, even if they do sound remarkably like those that have gone before .. !
