She said “Sing me a lullaby so sweet,
That the lights would stay away from me
Because my eyes see things they shouldn’t see
Help me.”
So I started to tremble out a verse
But my words weren’t lining up with her
But then the way that she hurt was even worse
Than without me.

So I got high
And I lost faith in a melody
Written for a girl when I had nothing left to hide,
And then I cried
Cause I’m missing you and missing Florida
It’s a long way back from California.

And as the sun fell dark behind the sea,
I felt her eyes steal another look at me,
She said “I’m looking for things I’ll never see.”
Release me
And how’d this summer air just get so cold?
And how’d this quiet girl just get so bold?
And how can she be something I can’t hold?
Tell me

So I got high
And I lost faith in a melody
Written for a girl when I had nothing left to hide,
And then I cried
Cause I’m missing you and missing Florida
It’s a long way back from California.

California

Cuz I’m missing you, and missing Florida,
It’s a long way back from California
A long way back from California.

So, apparently the girl and the guy are separated by pretty much an entire country. I think the girl wanted to be with him, but she ended up seeing that they wouldn't work out (probably because of the distance). So she tells the guy to release her because she sees that no matter what, the guy is still going to pursue his dream of a musical career in cali. So he wrote her a song, wanting to keep her because he really truly did love her, but in the end she still wanted to split up. Pretty sad song.

The other possibility I get from it is possibly the guy screwed up while he was in cali .. maybe hooked up with a girl for a night or something. Somehow the girl finds out about it, and even tho the guy regrets it the girl still wants to split up with him.

    Pretty sad song. =[

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
