Responsible Lyrics

Bound for the Blessing
You wouldn't see it coming
I keep you guessing
Watch while you come undone.

You were an island that no one would dare to tread upon.
I came in like the wise men, and asked you to take my gift of love.

CHORUS
Hold me responsible. It's all my fault.
I want you to hold me any way you can.
Hold me accountable. It's all my fault.
I want you to hold me any way you can.

Careful confessions
Can't scare you with my crime
I learned my lesson
Love you a little at a time.

But I'm losing my patience, getting acquainted with the edge.
I'm ready and waiting. Happy to stand convicted.

CHORUS
Hold me responsible. It's all my fault.
I want you to hold me any way you can.
Hold me accountable. It's all my fault.
I want you to hold me any way you can.

I can't change you when you won't change yourself.
But I see you slowly becoming someone else.
I can't blame you for the strength you lack.
Scared to give what you may not get back.

CHORUS
Hold me responsible. It's all my fault.
I want you to hold me any way you can.
Hold me accountable. It's all my fault.
I want you to hold me any way you can.

Looks to me like the girl and the guy are both afraid to love each other.

"Careful confessions Can't scare you with my crime I learned my lesson Love you a little at a time But I'm losing my patience getting acquainted with the edge. I'm ready and waiting. Happy to stand convicted." She's basically given her heart to him but is afraid it will scare him away. From this she's learned not to love him too much because she wants the same back from him and all she's doing right now is waiting for him to love her back.

"I can't change you when you won't change yourself. But I see you slowly becoming someone else. I can't blame you for the strength you lack. Scared to give what you may not get back." She thinks he does not love her back because of his fear of taking that risk of falling and getting hurt. His fear is his weakness and she does not blame him for having that strength.

"I want you to hold me any way you can" Regardless how much or how little he loves her, she still wants him to stay with her.

so true, i am in the exact same situation with a guy that is afraid to "get his feet wet " again and i am basically wearing my heart on my sleeve. i see what i am doing in reaching out to him as taking a huge risk, even though afraid. but his past hurt is keeping him from doing the same. it is a really heart wrenching situation when you like someone a lot or love them a lot and they are afraid of you, not because of you, but because of what someone else has done. sigh......

I get the impression this could be about an affair...

However, the guy being scared to love also makes sense!

What I got from this song is that she loves someone, but he's afraid to fall in love (maybe because he's been hurt before), and she wants to be really be with him. She knows that she shouldn't rush things, so she's taking it slow, but she's running out of patience. She's been waiting with her arms wide open, ready to embrace him, but he's just not ready for a relationship. He's been trying to change who he is, maybe so he can be with her, but she doesn't care about all of that. She just wants him to be ready to be with her, no matter in what way.

My Interpretation

I also believe that he's not used to how open but yet unpredictable she can be, so he feels a little on edge because she's not his usual "type."
