Timothy Lyrics
It's not the cold making my legs shake.
It's Timmy's ghost taking his place in our hearts forever.
It's not the sound keeping me from sleep.
It's what Jesus said about hell underneath.
I think I'd rather believe it's some imaginary place,
Made up to make children behave,
So our souls are safe to wander off,
Wherever they might please.
Your soul is safe wherever you might be.
Come now, sleep.
Come now, sleep.
Tell me I'm only dreaming.
Tell me he's just sleeping.
And when morning comes,
We'll both wake up to the sun,
and love that's enough to keep our friends alive.
Phone call.
I pull my car to the side of the road.
No, it's not the cold making my legs shake.
It's someone I love being taken away.
A ghost is taking his place in our hearts.
Where inside he moves from room to room,
but sometimes he climbs our spines,
to remind our grieving hearts,
that in this way he hasn't left.
Tell me I'm only dreaming.
Tell me he's just sleeping.
And when morning comes,
We'll both wake up to the sun,
and love that's enough to keep our friends alive.
Love is enough to keep our friends alive.
Take me back to where I was before I was born.
It's life; sweet and dreamless sleep
It sounds like heaven to me.
It's Timmy's ghost taking his place in our hearts forever.
It's what Jesus said about hell underneath.
I think I'd rather believe it's some imaginary place,

It sounds like heaven to me.

this song is extremely haunting and powerful. The lyrics explain my thoughts on heaven and hell, and how troubling it is to think of someone dying and being in hell. I don't believe in God, but this song is one of my all-time favorites.
the six-minute instrumental is very serene, and is not at all boring to listen to. It is from that part to the end that is my favorite part. And the final stanza at the end is probably the most haunting lyrics I have heard. A very good way to end the song.
As Cities Burn may not be my favorite band, but they struck gold with this song. Definitely the best on the album and the best by a Christian band. It's a shame that it will never become well-known, but it will forever be remembered to me as the song that best describes the paradox of the afterlife.
i think this song's meaning is kind of a culmination to the album's theme: the realization that heaven and God are all around us. heaven isn't some far-off place and God is in everything (like "that neon sign"). only now can the narrator stop worrying about Timothy in the afterlife and find some rest, beckoning "come now sleep".

This song is an ode to a friend of the band's, Timothy Jordan. There is a dedication to him in the linear notes. I'm guessing he passed away suddenly, and the song is one describing the sorrow and shock that one goes through when someone close is suddenly taken from this world.
i think the last part of the lyrics are wrong. i think he's really saying:
it's like sweet and dreamless sleep
not "it's life; sweet and dreamless sleep..." yea?
You're a real champion, Faballion.
Such a sad story, i'm guessing that the whole hell things means timmy wasn't a believer? Makes me cry when i hear it and i'm a guy...
The last lines of this song remind me of Sigmund Freud. Freud writes that when we are in the womb or have just been born and we aren't even really aware of own existence as a separate person from our mother, that this is contentment and the aim of life. In that state we have no sense of self and have no desires. Once we have left this state we lose that wholeness and spend the rest of our life chasing after what will complete us but really what we desire is to not have any desires.
Timothy used to play keyboards in Jonezetta. Cody from ACB and Ty from Jonezetta told me he committed suicide. So that should explain some things.
Oh, and Cody told me he was a believer, exitrequired, but either way Hell is a very haunting and touchy subject. So whether or not someone is a believer it makes people think of Heaven and Hell when someone commits suicide.
as long as this song is, it never gets old to me. i like the fact that its long. epic stuff right here.
to exit required
i think when he talks about hell he actually means that hes afraid Tim might go there and he doesn't want that to happen he wants it to be where theres no chance that he would go to hell and have it to where "our souls are safe to wander off, Wherever they might please"
