The Cap'm

It's about a guy imagining he is a "cap'm" while watching TV. The "helm" is his couch.

He is very pathetic, and he realizes this around the line "This button here is the fast-forward button."

Whoever is talking to him distracts him from being depressed by complimenting his hat.

Okay..this description is kinda sloppy but yeh its my interpretation.

This song makes me think of a guy who is in a relationship with one of those girls that has an uptight way of thinking that a man is supposed to be successful and the main source of income etc. etc. Because of the mainstream way of thinking she acts like he is not good enough for her. Despite this, he knows that she will grow out of it and learn to appreciate the small things in life.

Basically, he is Eccentric and she is realistic. He kind of needs to grow up but she kind of needs to lighten up and enjoy life for what it is.

"When I talk you keep looking away from me Because you probably think that I'm high on pot But I'm not, I'm not"

He's obviously a goofy, free-spirited guy who is just trying to be happy, but she thinks he's immature.

"Look me over I'm the Cap'm You say it's such a joke But I don't see you laughing"

By saying he's the Cap'm, he's referring that he is in control of his life and their relationship, but in a way that fits him. It's a way of saying he is in control but he isn't a control freak, like most men.

"People seem to think you can't be called the Cap'm Unless you drive a boat Well, I don't I don't"

He's basically not like other people. He isn't bound by other's beliefs. He can do anything he puts his mind to.

"Sit beside me at the helm Yeah, this is what I call the helm And this button here is the fast-forward button"

He's telling his girlfriend to sit with him and watch tv with him, but he realizes that he's in a little over his head...and realizes he is a loser with the "fast forward button" part.

"Did you say what I think you just said My hat looks good on me? I agree, I agree"

The girl sees that he now feels like a loser (because he can't please her just by being himself and because he's not able to give her grand material goods). She sort of comes out of her angry mood to make him feel better. She realizes he is just trying his best to make life good.

Thus, he is enthralled that she still thinks he is cool and goes back to his yippy-skippy attitude.

Then at the end he yells "i dont" multiple times to emphasize that he will never change!
