L.A. Lyrics

Oh here’s a story about a boy named Jay
Nothing he did would ever get in my way
But there’s still a long long way to go

I’ve only ever seen his face on film
I’ve only ever heard the lines he’d say
But still they won’t get in my way

I’m always told to be the dreamers pal(?)
Wake up one morning and your dreams are life
Never let them bring you down
Never let them tear me down
I always thought that I would follow you
Every place and everything you do
But I’m happy to be by myself
I don’t need no one else

He’s never ever seen my face before
I’m trying hard cos this I can’t ignore
But there’s still a long long way to go

I’m always told to be the dreamers pal
Wake up one morning and your dreams are life
Never let them bring you down
Never let them tear me down
I always thought that I would follow you
Every place and everything you do
But im happy to be by myself
I don’t need no one else

All my dreams are built around your face
And this place
All the times of staring at the sun
You’re the one
All my dreams are built around your face
And this place
All the times of staring at the sun
You’re the one

I’m always told to be the dreamers pal
Wake up one morning and your dreams are life
Never let them bring you down
Never let them tear me down
I always thought that I would follow you
Every place and everything you do
But I’m happy to be by myself
I don’t need no one else

I’m always told to be the dreamers pal
Wake up one morning and your dreams are life
Never let them bring you down
Never let them tear me down
I always thought that I would follow you
Every place and everything you do
But im happy to be by myself
I don’t need no one else

This song reminds me of my recent trip to Scotland, as it was played a few times on the radio, whilst driving about the lovely Island of Arran. Not quite as good as Mr. Rock & Roll, but still excellent none-the-less.

It's "dreamer kind". It sounds like you enjoyed your time in Scotland :) Strangely enough, this song reminds me of my time in San Francisco. No idea why. I'm from Glasgow, btw, same as Amy Mac.

It should actually be a boy named 'J', not Jay, As I am sure you are all aware this song was written about 'Jake Gyllenhall' who Amy had a massive crush on since the film Donnie Darko!!

Amy Macdonald herself has said that this song is about being happy with your achievements, no matter how big or small they are. You don't have to win an Oscar or Golden Globe; be proud of the things you aim no matter how simple they seem in comparison. Basically, don't live in the shadow of other people.

I'm sure she says I’m always told to be the dreamers kind instead of pal...;)

I think this song might be about Amy trying hard to get famous so she can meet Jake Gyllenhall. But then she realises that it's just playful day dreaming and that she should be happy with what she's accomplished already.

My Interpretation

I always thought it was about people who really were in love with celebrities even though they had never actually met them, but getting over it.
