Bigfoot! Lyrics

I changed the oils
and oiled the squeaks,
patched the holes
and fluid leaks,
at dusk beneath
a diabetic moon

And way to take the tv crews
across the creaking ice
The news is howling
to the timber wolves
and soon

I'll go through it all again
watch their doubtful smiles begin
but the visions that I see believe in me

So praise the things I can't forget
with burgers and a silhouette
on t-shirts at the council general store

I'll listen to the south winds sigh
with rumors and regrets and I
don't want to talk about it anymore

Won't go through it all again
watch their doubtful smiles begin
when the visions that I see believe in me

Or the visions that I see that will believe me.

Cover art for Bigfoot! lyrics by Weakerthans, The

From the ANTI records label page on the Weakerthans this song "tells the story of a ferry operator in northern Manitoba who saw the legendary creature and was then taken advantage of and mocked by everyone from cable news networks to the citizens of his own small town."

I love the way he sings: "I'll listen to the south winds sigh with rumors and regrets and I don't want to talk about it anymore"

Two points:

  1. I think he sings 'Won't go through it all again' on the second chorus(?) as opposed to 'I'll go through it all again'.

  2. I love the way he says that 'The visions that I see believe in me'. It makes it seem as though he's that much more adamant he sees these things and truly believes it. I'm not sure whether it makes me sad or inspired. I suppose it depends on which way you look at it doesn't it?

you know, for a song about something so simple and whimsical, this song really touches me. its about believing in something strongly, and the sadness that comes when you are alone in that boat. one of my favorite songs.
