Contact Lyrics

Hearts aren't really our guides.
We are truly alone.
'Cause God ain't up in the sky,
Holding together our bones.

Remember we used to speak?
Now I'm starting to think
That your voice was really my own,
Bouncing off the ceiling back to me.

God, this can't be.
God, this can't be.
God, could it be that all we see is it?
Is this it?
Is this it?

Won't you come down, heaven?
Won't you come down?
Won't you cut through the clouds?
Won't you come down?

Won't you come down heaven?
Won't you come down?
Won't you cut through the clouds?
Won't you come down?
Come down.
Come down.
Come down.

Oh, my heaven, why do you have doors to close?
Do you have clouds to stop his voice?

Oh, my heaven, why do you have doors to close?
Do you have clouds to stop his voice on the way down?

And God, this can't be,
And God, this can't be.
And God, could it be that all we see is it?
Is this it?

God, does grace reach to this side of madness?
'Cause I know this can't be
The great peace we all seek.

Won't you come down, heaven?
Won't you come down?
Won't you cut through the clouds?
Won't you come down?

Did your clouds stop his voice?
And, brother, have you found the great peace that we all seek?
You say, take a look around.
If there's a God, then he must be asleep.
God must be asleep.
God must be asleep.
God must be asleep.
God must be asleep.

As Cities Burn's songs are all extremely personal. That is why you can hear the passion in their songs. I believe that every song in the album, Cody wrote the lyrics from his perspective. He is not losing his faith or at the beginning of his walk with God. He is being real and saying things that most Christians just don't talk about. He is talking about his doubts and questions. He is writing about how he actually feels, not how the bible tells him to feel. This isn't contemporary Christian music.

EXACTLY!

For those of you that don't know, this song coincides with timothy in a huge way. This isn't exactly cody's thoughts on God and soforth, but it was Timothy's thoughts on God. He was losing a lot of faith and he took his own life later on down the road..in which the song timothy is more directed to. But just think about the contrast between how Cody talks about faith in Contact, and then in Timothy..

It seems that this whole song, someone is feeling distant from God; a way that we all admittedly feel sometimes. In the last stanza, it says "Did YOUR clouds stop his voice?" I believe this is asking the person if the clouds and the "doors" he has set up inside himself out of angst to God is keeping him from hearing clearly from him, making it seem that God's voice is just "bouncing off the ceiling" and back at him.

"Hearts are really our Gods we are truly alone 'cause God ain't up in the sky holding together our bones"

These lines are really sad because they seem to reflect the viewpoints of so many people these days... The feeling of so much lonesomeness that there "Can't be possibly a God above that doesn't answer or perform miracles anymore".

This is what I love about ACB so much though. They can write the words that touch you so much that its hard to explain.

I agree with what has been said thus far. I think when he says "Did your clouds stop his voice?" the "your" is heaven and it's just a metaphor comparing clouds to some barrier blocking the voice of God.

I don't think everything expressed is literally Cody's religious belief but rather, as was mentioned before, what people say about God. Also, as mentioned above, I think these lyrics attempt to capture what it feels like to be far from God and in doubt.

Brooke is also correct. The liner notes say "Hearts aren't really our guides"

this is amazing amazing. just goes to show you even they question and doubt things when it comes to God and his existance. but no matter what they still believe in God.

this is such a beautiful song.
