Girl With Broken Wings Lyrics
On the porch, she will sit,
light another cigarette,
and take a sip of anything that makes it right.
She's outside, trying to hide from the fight just inside,
where her mom and her dad destroy each other
and on the phone she will call
every boy, yeah, one and all.
They will touch her in all the right places.
And in her room, she will slide
down the bed and try to fly,
and she will fall once again for the feeling
and as he grabs her brown hair,
she is faking
that the feeling he gives her is real
as the floor underneath the bed is
breaking
she will finish what she starts with "i love you."
so from her head to her toes,
nervous hands and runny nose,
all of this just for one night of feeling
and in her ears she will hear
all the things that hide her fears
of dying young and making plans for the future.
and all the marks on her arms
symbolize a fractured heart
and all the boys that were smart
left her alone
so from the roof, she will fly
15 feet down the side
of the house where she once was happy
yes it's true, she's aware
that she is breaking
and it's true, she can't do anything
well in her blue underwear
she is thinking how
in jesus' precious name
she got here
well it's sad but it's true
she is ending
but for now, she will pray for some wings
on a black cadillac she is landing hard
yet her parents' biggest worry is the car
light another cigarette,
and take a sip of anything that makes it right.

Oh jesus. Those last two lines.
Word.
Word.
I can really relate to this song, all and all. I have two thoughts about it though, i feel like either she is doing drugs to feel and escape or using sex as a feeling and escape. But i think more on drugs and depression. And in her room, she will slide down the bed and try to fly, and she will fall once again for the feeling and as he grabs her brown hair, she is faking that the feeling he gives her is real as the floor underneath the bed is breaking she will finish what she starts with "i love you."
This line really makes me think of sex, but again shes is underneath the bed, possible high on drugs, loving the monster that is taking her. and then this part reminds me of drug withdrawels. so from her head to her toes, nervous hands and runny nose, all of this just for one night of feeling and in her ears she will hear all the things that hide her fears of dying young and making plans for the future.
i just feel like its a depressd girl struggling to grasp life. Bad shit has happened to her and she just doesnt want to live anymore cause she cant feel anythng for her depression is so strong so she uses drugs and cutting to feel again. And then she just gives up and possibly chooses death over life.
I get the feeling that the song is referring to both sex AND drugs.

"so from her head to her toes, nervous hands and runny nose, all of this just for one night of feeling"

I think this is also describing withdrawal symptoms. or possibly even symptoms of the drugs themselves.

This really just sounds like a sexual encounter....
This really just sounds like a sexual encounter. She's using boys for the feeling she gets from sex, but eventually even that fades and the feeling isn't good enough to cover her deep depression. So she turns to drugs. But those don't help either. So she resorts to suicide. It's so sad, and yet this happens to real people. I really like the way this song, in a way, begs the listener to take notice of this kind of thing and try to help those we know are suffering in this way.
"Well it's sad, but it's true She is ending But for now, she will pray for some wings On a black Cadillac she is landing hard Yet her parents' biggest worry is the car"
She literally does not have a single person that she feels she can turn to and feels that the only way out is through suicide, yet her primary concern is going to Heaven. Heart-breaking :/
when did they play it? is it going to be on their upcoming album? where can i get ahold of it?
It's off their first, out of print album, Nobody Sings Anymore.
thanks=] but what is this single version? i just acquired the nobody sings anymore CD, but i don't know what the single version tag is all about on this site
in play it again sam he also sings "when she tries to fly"
i love it it's so beautiful.
this song really makes me cry everytime i hear it, the story is so sad, when he says her mom and dad destroy each other, do you think it means they physically harm each other or just yell? i'm jw
dawsboss, i think it's just yelling and verbal abuse. you really can't tell, but i don't really get a violent vibe from that line.
this song is also on an earlier ep called 5 stories. the earlier ep version is acoustic and full of pep. the only lyrical difference in the two versions is that on the version on the ep andy sings some la la la's at the end.
amazing song.
