This Song Lyrics

Half the kids who you grew up with,
Were pushin prams by the time that they were just sixteen,
If love is a drug then where is the cure,
For the girl who used to talk to you about her dream.
And all the boys with all their toys,
Couldnt see the signs as we scortched out eyes with nicotine,
And the grown ups said, listen to your head,
But our hearts were crying out for heroes on TV screens.

Now this song is about you,
Now this song is about...

Changes in your mind,
Changes in your life,
Changes in the times,
And the reason you can't sleep at night,
Changes in your mind,
Changes in your life,
Changes in the times,
And the reason you gave up the fight.

Half the kids that arnt pushing prams,
Are pushing pills to boys and girls who are half their age

And the pubs and clubs are full of drunks,
They dont remember the day the were born or even their mum or the names.

An old man sings a tune but hes drowned out by a fight next to a fruit machine.

And all of this, our hearts, our nation,
A total lack of civilization,
Will it ever be the same?

Now this song is about you,
Now this song is about...

Changes in your mind,
Changes in our lives,
Changes in the times,
And the reason you we cant sleep at night,
Changes in our mind,
Changes in our lives,
Changes in the times,
And the reason we gave up the fight.

Now this song....is about, is about, is about you,
Now this song....is about, is about, is about you,
Now this song....is about, is about, is about you,
Now this song....is about, is about, is about you,

Typiucally reflecting urban decay really, especially amongst youth.

To me, it's like a sequel to The Jam's Saturday's Kids, but much bleaker.

@SmithersJones87 yup they're very Jam like in general . Mmm wonder who their influences are ????

The Enemy are from Coventry, which is where I've lived all my life, and I can imagine them seeing the way life seems to go round here ("half the kids you grew up with were pushing prams by the time that they were just sixteen...half the kids that aren't pushing prams are pushing pills to boys and girls who are half their age") and reflecting on it and basically despairing at where all their dreams went (if love is a drug, then where is the cure for the girl who used to talk to you about her dreams" and making a comment on the way society is. Even if the things they're describing aren't a general trend thoughout like the whole of the UK there are parts of this city where this really is a way of life and they aren't exaggerating it. On a personal note, this song always makes me think of Cov and "half the kids who (I) grew up with".

isn't the song all about how life doesn't always turned out the way you expected it. when your younger and you expect it to be like a fairytale where you set out to find prince charming and you get a happy ever after. well this song is about realising it's not like that. well that's what i think it is about anyway... anyone agree?

@DanielleMckenzie 11 yrs late but yeah, I agree ! Sorry you had to wait this long !

I'm not from England but I think this is a pretty realistic view on the English youth, or at least a part of it. Aren't chavs sort of notorious for having children when they are no more than fifteen themselves?

^ lol i find that comment quite offensive. even though i'm not from england, scotland actually but still this song does not represent britain's majority of youth at all. I'm sick of people thinking that the majority of people in Britain are all tubes who waste their lives by getting pregnant, boozing at such young ages etc. Having said that, I quite like The Enemy haha :)

I too am Scottish, and I too would like to agree with the above comment. And I'm loving this song right now.
