Whisper Lyrics

Running the race
Like a mouse in a cage
Getting nowhere but I’m trying
Forging ahead
But I’m stuck in the bed
That I made so I’m lying

But if you keep real close
Yeah, you stay real close
I will reach you

I'm down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me still

Eager to please,
Trying to be what they need
But I'm so very tired
I've stopped trying to find
Any peace in my mind
Because it tangles the wires

But if you keep real close
Yeah, you stay real close
I will reach you.

I'm down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me
Can you hear me still

The sound tires on my lips
To fade away into forgetting

I'm down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me
Can you hear me

I'm down to a whisper
In a daydream on a hill
Shut down to a whisper
Can you hear me
Can you hear me still

Based on several other songs on this album, I'd have to say this is another reference to her trying to get over her attachment to a lost love, and that she wants her current love to be patient just a little while longer - because while this process has been like running a maze like a rat in a cage, her cries of anguish are getting quieter and quieter, and are in fact, right now, down to a whisper. And soon the past love will be like nothing but a daydream she once had.

yes, but "can you hear me still" is another reach out towards the last love she had. notice how the song ends with that line.. the whisper is coming from her heart, the daydream from her mind. she will only be fighting it on the inside now, instead of trying to reach out to the last love directly.

I agree with some of the other people who posted but I don't understand what she means by "I've stopped trying to find/Any peace in my mind/'Cause it tangles the wires" and how it fits in with the theme. Someone explain, please?

brunetttie, "the I've stopped trying to find/Any peace in my mind/'Cause it tangles the wires" lyrics mean that she's going to stop thinking about it and beating herself up and wracking her brains for explanations for why her last love left her; she's just got to accept it happened and move on now, or it will get in the way of her future and stop her being able to love this new guy and live her life.

i think this song is about a person who is lying in bed dying and he just begs for the person who he loves to stay near him. the person is down to a whisper because he doesn't have energy left on him.... i love this song especially in the part that she actually do the whisper

to me this song is about a relationship where things can't work out just as she would like them to but she still wants to try, and continue to try, regardless to how fucked up everything might end up. <3

The "Eager to please/Trying to be what they need/But I'm so very tired/I've stopped trying to find/Any peace in my mind/Because it tangles the wires." Makes me think of my own situation right now. I want to be with him but his parent's are being difficult for no reason. So I just keep "Trying to be what they need." even thought it doesn't seem to help and just wears on me. And the "I've stopped trying to find/Any peace in my mind/Because it tangles the wires." is like how I spend so much time trying to figure out how to fix things (create peace in my mind) but because all the troubles are based on his parent's unreasonable actions there's no real resolve, thinking about it just "Tangles the wires." but as long as he stay's close to me I'm sure we can make it through this rough patch...
