I think this song's about his girlfriend passing away. If not girlfriend, someone close to him...and I think that person drowned...

I have one of those necklaces, it's the one you put the ashes of your loved one in. My necklace has my cat's ashes in it. I'm assuming he has one with the person he's singing about.
