I thought it was about depression but I'm probably wrong
it's about being different and getting made fun of and telling yourself to hold on,and i think the last lines is saying you'll never let go of the real you and be the same as everyone else....i think
i also think it's bout JD's sickness( idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura) and telling himself to hold on,and maybe telling his wife and kids to hold on also
The song has a diverse meaning, from sickness, to being picked on, relationship issues, etc..In the DVD that comes with the limited edition album, JD says its about holding on to be strong enough to get through your problems.

IMO, it's about stigmatizing people who have illnesses. Reading the above, I guess it's about his blood disorder, but I was guessing it was about mental illness, like depression.

this song talks about alot more than that if you watch the video it shows the society stereo typical gotta be bad ass and have big balls show you your worthy. a song for fans more so i guess, i respect it though. to the kids who feel like there picked on by kids and by the general thoughts beat into your haed by society being hated for just you bubt it also shows to the ignorance of the soceity the reference to religion kill the damned fool and how tons of poeple in this world hate each other with ignorance its to hold on through everything when our world is getting harder and harder
