Don't Jump Lyrics

On top of the roof
The air is so cold and so calm
I say your name in silence
You don't wanna hear it right now
The eyes of the city
Are counting the tears falling down
Each one a promise
Of everything you never found

I scream into the night for you
Don't make it true
Don't jump
The lights will not guide you through
They're deceiving you
Don't jump
Don't let memories go
Of me and you
The world is down there out of view
Please don't jump

You open your eyes
But you can't remember what for
The snow falls quietly
You just can't feel it no more
Somewhere out there
You lost yourself in your pain
You dream of the end
To start all over again

I scream into the night for you
Don't make it true
Don't jump
The lights will not guide you through
They're deceiving you
Don't jump
Don't let memories go
Of me and you
The world is down there out of view
Please don't jump
Don't jump

I don't know how long
I can hold you so strong
I don't know how long

Just take my hand
Give it a chance
Don't jump

I scream into the night for you
Don't make it true
Don't jump
The lights will not guide you through
They're deceiving you
Don't jump
Don't let memories go
Of me and you
The world is down there out of view
Please don't jump
Don't jump
And if all that can't hold you back
Then I'll jump for you

i think there's no mistery here. it's a song to someone who is gonna comict suicide, from probably a friend. he asks to friend not to jump (suicide), telling him his emotions are fooling him, and this is not the solution. in the video, bill appears in both situations, because he sings both. the chorus is the friend thoughts and the other parts (althought he says you) is the situation of the one who is going to kill himself.

"The eyes of the city Are counting the tears falling down Each one a promise Of everything you never found" ... "The snow falls quietly You just can't feel it no more Somewhere out there You lost yourself in your pain"

he thinks he never found true happiness and the pain doesn't let him feel it again. he is lost, the pain doesn't let him live, it is smaching him slowly and there's no way out.

"You open your eyes But you can't remember what for"

he can't realise why he is still there, he sees nothing but suffer in his life and nothing to keep him there.

"And if all that can't hold you back Then I'll jump for you "

well at first, this part of the song was kindof confusing for me, now i think it knows what it means but i'm not sure at all. the meaning i get from here is that the lost of his friend would give him (bill with jacket :p) to much pain, because he would miss him and probably would feel guilty for letting this happen, and that would driving him to madness and would make him give his life for his friend.

Its pretty clear the song is about suicide, and the singer begging the listener not to jump. This song hit so close to home for me. The dearest person to me in the world has been in a suicidal state for a long time now. I've pulled him back from it, but like the song says "I don't know how long...how long I can hold you so strong." The line "then I'll jump for you" used to confuse me, but not anymore. What the singer is trying to say is that if the listener jumps, he'll follow him, because life isn't worth living without them in his life. At least, that's what it means for me. The line "don't let memories go of me and you" tells me this is someone very near and dear to the writer's heart. If Bill Kaulitz wrote this song, I wonder if it was possibily about his twin brother Tom. Just speculation only.

Oh yeah. The lyrics are very obscure on this one. Honest.

=O Dudes. Has anyone seen the video? http://weblog.xanga.com/RainDots/649584583/dont-jump.html

ignore the start, Heres the lyrics (that aren't blatantly obvious xD ) : I say your name in silence You don't wanna hear it right now - you need time to think, time to talk instead of listen

The eyes of the city Are counting the tears falling down Each one a promise Of everything you never found - You're crying because of everything you're missing. No one really cares, but the city can see them. (or in the video, people car you'll jump, not that you're depressed)

You open your eyes But you can't remember what for- 2 things : 1) You gave the world another chance to show you something to make you step down from that ledge 2) You don't know why you get up in the morning, and take another day.

The snow falls quietly You just can't feel it no more - could be one of two: 1) You're too numb to feel it 2) Falling->percipitation->snow = frozen rain = frozen tear = Frozen = cold. Cold = Mean. Crying from the harshness. (oh-ho!)

If anything else doesn't Make sense to you, Go back to grade 7 english. (or maybe it was grade 10 for everyone else, but I learned it in grade 7 via Highschool english teacher teaching grade 7)

This was taken from there website:

“Don’t Jump” is an anti-suicide song, telling the listener not to give up on himself, while the guitar-heavy album-opener, “Scream,” is about “saying what you want—or better yet, shouting it—to get your point across,” explains Bill. The quiet but powerful “Rescue Me” is about the helplessness you feel when a relationship crumbles before your eyes, while the sweetly, slowed-down “Monsoon” is about going through hardships with a best friend or soul-mate – withstanding anything life can throw at you – and by facing adversity, overcoming it to find a positive end.

ohhh and i love all there songs i really like listening to the german ones even thoughi cant really understand them

I really do owe my life to this song. I used to b really depressed and I was very emotionally unstable and constantly thinking that no one cared. I was so wrapped up in my suicidal thoughts that I didn't realize I was hurting my bestfriend. Well he was tired of talking to me so he drove me around for a couple of hours and when we finally stopped he put on Don't Jump. At first I didn't get it then he explained verse by verse to me. I finnaly saw that I wasn't the only one hurting. So I stopped being "emo" and to this day I listen to that song to remind myself that suicide is not the answer. It's just a selfish way to end your problems.

Memory

Like almost everyone else here, I have to say that this song is about someone who's suicidal. The song really tells the entire story.

The listener is on a rooftop, about to commit suicide, as the singer comes around and tries to convince the listener not to jump; to not "let memories go" (which, as rockin_rebel mentioned, implies that the singer and the listener were very close, or shared a lot of memories together).

The last few parts of the song are especially sad, because the singer doesn't know how long he can keep the listener from committing suicide, and "if all that [doesn't] hold [the listener] back", then (again, as rockin_rebel said), the singer will jump too, since life will no longer be worth living.

This song really came for me at one of my lowest moments in life, and was really one of the things that helped me out of the suicidal mode. Beautiful song.

"On top of the roof The air is so cold and so calm"

Well, duh...

"I say your name in silence You don't wanna hear it right now"

I'm trying to talk to you, but it falls on empty ears/you can't hear me because you're so wrapped up

"The eyes of the city Are counting the tears falling down Each one a promise Of everything you never found"

People are watching and waiting; your tears fall down, counting each thing that you've lost or never had.

"I scream into the night for you Don't make it true"

Don't make it true that death is the only answer, don't fulfill your wish to die

"Don't jump The lights will not guide you through They're deceiving you"

You think that you'll be better off; the lights down below are inviting you to jump, but don't trust them, you won't achieve anything.

"Don't jump Don't let memories go Of me and you"

Don't forget us, and don't leave us behind and let everything we had die out

"The world is down there out of view Please don't jump"

There's a whole world beyond what you're thinking right now, waiting for you, and you have to continue living to see it; you're not thinking clearly and you can't remember (the world) what to live for.

"You open your eyes But you can't remember what for"

You can't remember why you bother to open your eyes again every day, instead of dying; the effort is too much

"The snow falls quietly You just can't feel it no more"

The snow is still falling, but you're numb to it

"Somewhere out there You lost yourself in your pain You dream of the end To start all over again"

At some point, you got too caught up in the bad things, and couldn't find your way out of that frame of mind. You want to die, to start something new and end all the bad things.

"I don't know how long I can hold you so strong I don't know how long

Just take my hand Give it a chance Don't jump"

I don't know how long I can stay here and keep you from jumping; you need to take my hand and come back, and give it another chance (he doesn't know how long he'll be able to keep ___ from jumping when they're still unwilling to try)

"And if all that can't hold you back Then I'll jump for you"

If everything I've told you won't keep you here with me, then I'll go with you.

My Interpretation

Or, "I say your name in silence, you don't want to hear it right now," could mean that the speaker is almost afraid to approach the person they want to save.

This song pretty much speaks for itself, when you listen to the lyrics.

Their close friend is about to commit suicide and they want them to rethink it and save their life. They know suicide isn't the answer and they just want the person alive. They're terrified because they've come upon their friend right before they jump and they're desperate. They're promising them that, although they're unhappy, they've had good times together and it will all be ruined if they jump.

I find the last line to be extremely powerful and I always want to cry when I hear it. "And if all that can't hold you back, then I'll jump for you." The pain would be unbearable and they'll give up their own life because they couldn't stand the loss of such a good friend.

I love this song! the German version too. it's beautiful. I think it's basically saying that suicide is not the way to go even if your life really really stinks
