Dear Father Lyrics
I addressed this letter to "dear father"
I know you as complete unknown
I guess it's better you don't bother
All our truth should be left alone
Be left alone
Be left alone
I learned the things you never showed me
Took the chances you'd've blown
And to this day, the one and only,
You remain a complete unknown
You're out there somewhere,
I don't know if you care, at all,
It seems that you don't
And since if that day will never come,
So you remain a complete unknown
So many years have been ignored,
You've been gone without a trace
I'm getting used to knowing you're just a name without a face
Without a face
Without a face
You're out there somewhere,
I don't know if you care, at all,
It seems that you don't
And since that day will never come,
So you remain a complete unknown

@torrentomike Was your statement meant to be sardonic/sarcastic/humorous? If it was intended to be taken seriously...HOW could ANYONE possibly interpret this song that way? HOW is it about obese people/their rights? Although I find the notion to be rather bizarre, I am not merely mocking you.

Great song and a lot of people can relate to it, including me. Although i know who my dad is, he wasn't there when i was growning up and ive only seen him once since when i was around 19.
With a lot of songs, its possible to interperate the lyrics to various meanings, but i really really do not get the previous comment on it being about obesity. Ive just been staring at the lyrics and theres just nothing that can point to it in any way. But hey 'torrentomike', if thats what you feel from the song then who am i to judge, just quit calling people fucking ignorant just because you dont agree with the meaning that 99% of us think it is
This is a song about black fathers.

Mm, I know how he feels, Its a great song, but It must hurt to have to bring it up
This song is about Deryck's father. (obviously). His mother was 17 when she had him. And before he was even born, his father abandoned him and his mother.
That is where "complete unknown" comes from. He never knew his father.
