I'll go on believing it was about a bad ass trip, myself, because fact is they could have had an experience completely unrelated to the album cover but some outside observer just says "You're about as clear as the guy in the Obscure By Clouds album cover" so with these feelings of complete connectedness and alienation take on a recognizable form and they decide to go with the theme by making a Floyd-ish sound to accompany the lyrics. I don't think it's coincidence that this song is immediately followed by "How High Can You Fly".

The consistent rhetorical question did you see me? Is an implication of our diasporic community and illustrates the common freedom we all strive for Waving it free in the tree might have been a reluctant line to be humourous, believe me is about his frusturation about people not understanding his containment he's dancing in the sand and are much inspired and drifting beyond normalcy ween is the best band and their lyrics are always underestimated

i believe strongly that this song is about/inspired by/relating to a trip, and given the fact that this is ween we're talking about its always a distinct possibility. on such a trip, it is possible for one to feel indescribable connections with nature and the universe, to feel intimately linked to them. the tree, the sand and sea, the universe, flying, waving free, coming down... these feelings are profound, not easily explained to someone else in mere words, and as such must oftentimes be enjoyed by the beholder alone. they are asking "did you see me?" because they so badly want someone to share the experience with, knowing full well that the answer is probably "no." this is reflected in the angst with which the lyrics are sung.

not to mention that trippy-ass warbling sound that gets ridiculously intense; fuckin ill.

It's about a guy who accidentally trades his soul with/kills an angel.. Leaving himself their trapped alone.. All of the comments I've seen so far have been perfectly correct.heres an explanation:

The repetitive dialog starts with the angel searching for him. Trying to connect with him: "Did you see me?" " come down on the sand and see(sea), believe me!"(she seeks him out with a sympathy for him to believe she is there/real)

Then man replies with acknowledgement: "Did you see me?" "Waving it free in the tree? Believe me!) he sets his mind free, freeing her search and setting to her life in his mind. The believe in this verse is noted also as "relieve me!" He wants his payers anwered, or at least her.

She replies "Did you see me? Flying through the Galaxy" "relieve me."(or "release me".she was searching for him too.

I don't know if either the angel or the man are tricking the other, have found a broken love, or are pleading within themselves(the slip between release, relieve, and believe allow for open interpretation though,) Through the break Down and ending the last two lyrics with a literate words stretched an interpretation.they switch roles...or oppose and set the other free, or just give on the other, betray the other( allowing more interpretation..)

The alternate lyrics aren't so important until after the breakdown, but that's what I worked out of it!

I feel the song is about a spirit having left the human realm of existence, attempting to get the attention of someone they’ve left behind. Perhaps “Waving it free in the trees” implies a release from a binding of illness in their former body. The spirit longs to comfort those lingering to their past existence by showing how beautiful and free they have become, one with all these elements.
