i think the "half human half machine" part may be saying something about how his old lover is sometimes affectionate and emotional to him, while other times can be completely distant and sort of going through the motions. when people break up there is the switch between beginnign to move on and becoming cold to the other person, while still having lingering feelings for them.

anthony green uses alot of season changing symbolism.

the thing i love about this song is that i get a tingling feeling as soon as the song slows down when he says "hold my breath..."
