this song is so beautiful. the instrumentals are great. the first time i heard it was live when i went to the from first to last concert at the el corazon a few weeks ago. pierce the veil was there & at the time i had never heard of them but when i heard vic sing this song i instantly fell in love with them & now they're like, all i listen to. my favorite parts are: "Don’t bother cause this love is a lie I’m a chemical kid, you’re a mechanical bride"

i hope i'm not completely out of line for saying this, but i've always had the idea that part of this song is about having sex with someone when you're kind of being pressured into it. "if there's a god then i'm letting him go, all for you." for someone who was religious, premarital sex would in a sense mean letting god go. another thing that kind of related to that is "a love you light is a love soon gone." which i've always interpreted as the same as the Emarosa lyric "love turns to lust then back to nothing." it also talks about her falling asleep next to him. oh and when it says "if this is it, don't bother, cuz this love is a lie. i'm a chemical kid, you're a mechanical bride." it could mean that he's seeing that their "love" was really nothing more than lust, and therefore not going anywhere. as for the chemical kid/mechanical bride thing i'm not really sure what that means lol. oh and then there's the whole "pastel red and porn star white" thing...which sounds rather sexual to me haha. the video isnt really related to this concept, but it is about letting go and taking a chance (the boy leaving the house.) so i can kind of see the similarity.

@DollFaceAdalia I'm not sure about the pastel-red being about the altar. I was thinking that they were referring to the woman. The woman was porn star white and the pastel-red I assumed was about her lips. Women that are super white with the red lipstick are usually viewed as a seductress, which I see with this song.

The "Chemical Kid" (in this case Vic) is looking for a chemical love, as in the real attraction and feelings for each other. The "Mechanical Bride" want something physical. Just like mechanics are parts working together, she wants his body and hers to work together, but no emotion.

the first time i heard pierce the veil, i was at van's warped tour. i had never heard them before, but really liked them. so i bought the cd and i have to say they are pretty amazing, not gonna lie. love this song. i think all their songs have a surface meaning, but if you look closer, its pretty deep

this song seems to be about someone losing the love of their life, and if they could get this person back, they would give it all. "...All for you, you alone, raise my hands at the thought of you leaving me alone"
the first comment on the page seems completely wrong to me, it seems like hes saying their love was fake, like chemicals and mechanics. but then the part about giving up God for the girl contradicts everthing i just said..unless he was forced to give up God. i wish this website could just ask the artists..

Truely amazing, truely. The begining sort of puzzled me, & I don't think that the lyrics are quite right, but it could just be me not being about to understand Vic's stunning voice.
I think that it's this guy & he's COMPLETELY head over heels for a girl, & he'd do anything for her "if there's a God then I'm letting him go, all for you." & he's not afraid to admit just how profound his feelings for her are "What if I still care?"
Well, I've been a huge fan of Pierce the Veil, and I think this song is about a break up, because if you watch the music video, there's a point when the little boy and girl talk, and at one point, she mouths "You have to let go" I don't know, great band, and music.
