Empty Space Lyrics
It's a void that I can't fill
An empty space I can't replace
With anything at all
The lights are all burnt out
And smoke will drive the swimmers down
there's noone left at all
You've done enough
He's still alive
He's breathing on his own
I leave everything I have
You've done enough
He's still alive
And he's breathing on his own
And he's breathing on his own
There's chaos everywhere
And panic written on the air
That everyone is breathing
And crushing light of day
Pain will never wash away
Fear will never leave
You've done enough
He's still alive
He's breathing on his own
I leave everything I have
You've done enough
He's still alive
And he's breathing on his own
And he's breathing on his own
And god save our souls
How tables have turned
And broke
One more like this could be the end
They say they told us all along
But we were busy getting laid
One more like this will be the end
And we've known it all along
We've known it all along
An empty space I can't replace
With anything at all
The lights are all burnt out
And smoke will drive the swimmers down
there's noone left at all
He's still alive
He's breathing on his own
I leave everything I have
You've done enough
He's still alive
And he's breathing on his own
And he's breathing on his own
And panic written on the air
That everyone is breathing
And crushing light of day
Pain will never wash away
Fear will never leave
He's still alive
He's breathing on his own
I leave everything I have
You've done enough
He's still alive
And he's breathing on his own
And he's breathing on his own
How tables have turned
And broke
They say they told us all along
But we were busy getting laid
One more like this will be the end
And we've known it all along
We've known it all along

Such a great song which shows that Air Traffic can do more than the upbeat, catchy songs that they are best known for. This song has real emotion in it.
There's chaos everywhere And panic written on the air That everyone is breathing And crushing light of day Pain will never wash away Fear will never leave
Wow. This song is just gorgeous. It sounds so much like Muse in some places.
i had the same feeling about Muse

I kind of get the feeling that this song is about a friend that they nearly lost. Death! I think this is a thankyou to someone for saving a life and that they are sorry for being so naive and getting too lost in their own stardom.
"One more like this could be the end They say they told us all along But we were busy getting laid"
I think this may go as a sorry to people that they have left behind since their fame and good fortune! Well thats how i understand it!
I agree on the Muse thing, it's so similar to the sound when the piano really kicks in.
As for the death thing, I agree - drowning, too? Or am I just pointing out the obvious?
Anyway. Great song.
i seem to remember it's about on of the band's friends dying in a car accident just before air traffic got a record deal. beautiful never the less. x
Okay this is what i got from the song. probably wrong but oh well .. :) I agree with it maybe being that a friend of his died but if you've read the book the Gargoyle it might mean something slightly different to you. I thought it was maybe an intense relationship where the guy wasnt in a very good place in his life and a woman/girl was looking after him but hes not willing to get better. he feels lost and shes done all she can to try and save him so what else is she to do ? could be to do with a drug addict etc. but please read The Gargoyle - Andrew Davidson. its an incredibly written book and i think it connects with this song....
Okay, I didn't sleep last night so my interpretation might be off. Somehow I have the feeling this is about a very difficult delivery where the mother and the child almost die ('"you've done enough, he's breathing on his own"). The verses between the refrain are about the father's feelings of anguish and helplessness ("chaos, panic, pain, fear"). In the end doctors advise them to not have another child because it might be too dangerous ("one more like this could be the end").
Of course it could be about drugs and OD, but that's so not original! Besides, my wife had a horrible first delivery, so I can see where my interpretation comes from.
I don't like most of Air Traffic's other songs much, but this one is nice. I heard it while translating a French drama comedy called Clara Sheller (a bit like Ally McBeal but more serious, and in French). The song is played at the end of the episode when two of the male characters undress each other and have sex, one of them a straight guy who does it for the first time. I still noticed and liked the song! Amazing! Well done, Air Traffic! ;-)
Last thing: Isn't he singing "I owe you everything I have" instead of "I leave everything I have"?
i'm not entirely sure what this song is about but your interpretation is my favorite :)
