Bring the Light Lyrics
shot down, I stood
withstood my neighborhood
i got it wrong
but i could
follow love lest i learn
it's light
to bring the light
i fought with all my might, with light
oh bring the light
light, bring the light
i never felt so good and right
but tonight you'll never need another sound
oh, bring the light
bring the light to me
here and gone oh i trust
you'd spit upon my dust
and mix my ash with your blood
a son of God you know you must arrive
in the light
bring the light, let's bring the light
light, oh bring the light
light, bring the light
it's yours not mine
if you juts want to survive
go grab a glimpse of any star in heaven's high
i never felt so real and loved and alive
no shadows follow me unsung
in the light, bring the light to me
a flower song, clear and bright
is it wrong, in neon white?
to insist you are mine
standing dumb in the light
bring the light
oh, bring to light
bring the light!
light, bring the light
I never felt so real and right and alive
don't let them steal from you what's yours by right
light, bring the light
you know there comes a place and time
you can't deny
with every movement shadows cast and align
bring the light, bring the light
bring the light, let's bring the light
bring the light, bring the light
bring the light, let's bring the light
bring the light, bring the light
bring the light, let's bring the light
light, bring the light
bring the light, let's bring the light

I think Billy Corgan's transformation from a negative, God-mocking artist in his days of Bullet with Butterfly Wings to his more recent, positive songs is notable. After his project with Zwan, it is clear that Billy Corgan is now a Christian, and this song reflects that conversion. He asserts that the "son of God you know you must arrive in the light" and recognizes that the light is "yours not mine." "Mix my ash with your blood" refers to the dust that we all become and Billy's longing to be saved by the blood of Christ, who was sacrificed for mankind. Light is a major theme in the Bible, and it describes the holiness of God that is pure. In our world of darkness, we should welcome God's light by exclaiming, "Bring the light!"
Oh also here...kinda creepy :
Here and gone oh I trust You'd spit upon my dust And mix my ash with your blood A son of God you know you must arrive In the light Bring the light, let's bring the light Light, oh bring the light
while this interpretation will go against what I previously said, I think perhaps BC was dabbling a bit at this point. "a son of God" refers to an angel. "an angel of light" refers to satan. So this isn't a Christian verse by any means. "Here and gone" = the old SP; "you'd spit upon my dust" = SP's legacy; "mix my ash with your blood" = a ceremony. This is almost surely satanic.
Shot down I stood Withstood my neighborhood I got it wrong But I could Follow love lest I learn It's light To bring the light I fought with all my might, with light Oh bring the light
---- In several ways, their hometown, Chicago, hated The Smashing Pumpkins before they blew up. He "withstood his neighborhood" among being "shot down" by them. His tool? His songwriting, his "light". At this time in his life, Corgan was very much into "love" and "Christ" and "the right way". Don't forget that just previous to this he released a record with lots of Christian symbolism with the band Zwan. Not saying he was actually Christian or not, but he viewed the precepts as very important in his life at this time.
Too bad he lost it again.
If you just want to survive Go grab a glimpse of any star in heaven's high I never felt so real and loved and alive No shadows follow me unsung In the light, bring the light to me
--- Again, him mixing Christianity with esoteric astral beliefs and occultism, but this was his "guide" at the time. "No shadows follow me unsung" eludes to all the darkness in his life not being in vain.
Don't let them steal from you what's yours by right Light, bring the light You know there comes a place and time You can't deny With every movement shadows cast and align
--- He overcame his neighborhood and all of the negative press back in the early days of SP. He never let them "steal" it from him. (He later sold SP to freemasonry but that's a different story) and finally, "shadows cast and align" when the dark days in your life finally show up to mean something brilliant.
@zerosoma33 Would be a better story if it had a realistic ending and didn’t include so much fantasy.

@zerosoma33 Never mind that though. Done.

I love this song. It's so full of life, love and energy.
I particularly like the line "mix my ash with your blood" for me this is Billy saying how he has been burnt and hurt but this new love of his is bringing life and passion to him.
Zeitgeist best album (of the last 7 years...)
such an upliftin and chillin song so good to be stoned to
The beginning melody of this song originally caught my ear but in true fashion, Billy has spectacular phrasing in his lyrics like the already mentioned "Mix my ash with your blood" and "with every moment shadows cast and align" and "don't let them steal from you what's yours by right". I love the song and the simplicity with which he shares his message. Billy is great.
You never know if someone is christain you just worrie about yourself
i know that sometime the light means satan because god made satan a angel
i beleave that some "bypolar" etc people that see lights arent really crazy there being attacked in the spirt world
one posstive sign of a possesion is seeing lights and black but some people dont even see black they see the light, satan using his light against yu
maybe billy took the sayying keep your friends close and your enemys even closer and acts christain you never know it says in the bible that 30% of all mankind will be sent to a lake of fire :P
hitler belaved he was controlled by soursers from the 5th level of hell
i dont give a fuck what the light is im gonna bring it when i go drumming haha
hopefully its god :P
hahaha - b_rent just solved this song for me. I was having trouble understanding this song. but it clicked just now. "Shot down, I stood, withstood my neighborhood" is about Lucifer's fall from grace when he stood against god. Lucifer was also God's light bearer as the first angel created. so the song is from lucifer's point of view, "mix my ash with your blood, a son of god you know you must arrive" Makes a whole lot more sense. and hell is associated with fire and fire is associated with ash. i can't fully interpret it, but the song does make sense from lucifer's point of view.
