Dad's Gonna Kill Me Lyrics

Out in the desert there's a soldier lying dead
Vultures pecking the eyes out of his head
Another day that could have been me there instead
Nobody loves me here
Nobody loves me here

Dad's gonna kill me
Dad's gonna kill me

You hit the booby trap and you're in pieces
With every bullet your risk increases
Old Ali Baba, he's a different species
Nobody loves me here
Nobody loves me here

Dad's gonna kill me
Dad's gonna kill me

I'm dead meat in my HumV Frankenstein
I hit the road block, god knows I never hit the mine
The dice rolled and I got lucky this time

Dad's gonna kill me
Dad's gonna kill me

I've got a wife, a kid, another on the way
I might get home if I can live through today
Before I came out here I never used to pray
Nobody loves me here
Nobody loves me here

Dad's gonna kill me

Dad's in a bad mood, dad's got the blues
It's someone else's mess that I didn't choose
At least we're winning on the Fox evening news
Nobody loves me here

Dad's gonna kill me
Dad's gonna kill me

Dawn patrol went out and didn't come back
Hug the wire and pray like I told you, mac
Or they'll be shoveling bits of you into a sack

Dad's gonna kill me.

And who's that stranger walking in my dreams
And whose that stranger cast a shadow 'cross my heart
And who's that stranger, I dare speak his name
Must be old death a-walking
Must be old death a-walking

Dad's gonna kill me

7 muzzle monkeys standing in a row
Standing waiting for the sandbox to blow
Sitting targets in the wild west show

Nobody loves me here

Dad's gonna kill me

Another angel got his wings this week
Charbroiled with his own Willie Pete
Nobody's dying if you speak double-speak

Dad's gonna kill me

This song’s written through the eyes of an American soldier fighting in Iraq. The ‘dad’ in the song is slang for Baghdad. Other slang used - Frankenstein - HUMV customised with extra armour plating Muzzle Monkey - a GI Angel - A deceased GI Willie Pete - Napalm Ali Baba – An Arab

Spot on, but a correction. It's most likely from the perspective of a british soldier, since a muzzle monkey is slang for what brits call american GIs.

"Willie Pete" is actually slang for white phosphorus ('WP'), not napalm. White phosphorus burns rapidly, so white phosphorus munitions may be used as incendiaries or to generate smoke, either as a target marker or to create smoke screens.

"Ali Baba" may refer to Arabs in general, or it may be used in a more restricted sense to refer to the looters who emerged after the fall of Saddam. The name comes from the story "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves".

Incidentally, the more typical spelling is 'humvee', and it comes from the acronym HMMV...

Bit of a correction to my earlier post - Willie Pete is a slang term for a White Phosphorus (WP) grenade - not Napalm.

Asha, total agreement with you re: song meaning. Ole Ali Baba is a different Species - The Middle East is an Ancient Culture - as an American We cannot understand their past. Nobody loves me here/ Nobody Wants me Here: Iraq didn't ask America to invade, nor do they feel any love for us in general/ As bad as Saddam was/ the people had clean water, electricity, Saddam was secular not a muslim extremist If Al Quada is there now - America Invited them in. Saddam would have blown Al Quada up Saddam was evil no doubt

Double Speak - what we hear/ what is fact/ two totally different matters.

The season premiere of Sons of Anarchy season 3 ended with this song. Richard Thompson should use that portion of the episode as a music video. Great screen play!

Listen closely to the song... The lyrics "I hit the road block, god knows I never hit the mine", should be 'I hit the road block, somehow I never hit the mine'
