Metal Airplanes Lyrics

On a plane, somewhere over the sea
Above the rain, the bottle sets me free
I turn to stone
Fall back in my seat
The cuts are gone
But somehow I'm still bleeding

You know it's true
There's nothing I can do
You know it's true
There's nothing I can do about you

Move to France, La Rochelle or Nice
Get a house, pretend to live in peace
Paint the walls, a black out of your face
Stalk the halls
And move into the basement

You know it's true
There's nothing I can do
Pick a fight, it's just you being right
Walk away
There's nothing I can say
You know it's true
There's nothing I can do about you

So don't you mind the gap when you leave
There'll be time enough to turn tail tomorrow
Don't you mind the gap when you leave

Broken up
Like a tanker on the rocks
Not made of much
I'm like the Cubs against the Sox
On a plane, somewhere over the sea
I fall asleep, convinced that I ain't breathing

You know it's true
There's nothing I can do
Pick a fight, it's just you being right
Walk away
There's nothing I can say
You know it's true
There's nothing I can do about you

So don't you mind the gap when you leave
There'll be time enough to turn tail tomorrow

It's like he's trying to move and change his entire life to forget a girl (Jenny?) I don't get tho why he says he's going to move to the basement

I think it means that he's trying to change his life but keeps falling back on the girl he loves despite how much she is bad for him.

"Don't you mind the gap when you leave, there'll be time enough to turn tail tomorrow"

For him he always ends up falling back and going back to her, turning tail, etc.

If I'm not mistaken from his blog, this could be about a time when Matt flew to Europe (specifically England) to clear his head about his relationships, but he later realized it was an awful idea and that he wasn't mentally fit enough to do it. His plan, as I recall, was to travel around but he really just stayed with some friends in England and had to come back home.

Just a note, that seems to confirm the England trip, is that in London there are signs around the underground subway centers that say "Mind the gap" meaning the gap between the train and the platform, as it can sometimes be a little wide.

When he says

On a plane, somewhere over the sea Above the rain, the bottle sets me free I turn to stone Fall back in my seat The cuts are gone But somehow I'm still bleeding

It means that by using the bottle and setting himself free, he gets above the rain or storm on the plain. The rain meaning a fight or argument, something along those lines.

When he says that the cuts are gone but there's still bleeding hes talking about insults that someone has given him, possibly his ex-wife? and since there is still bleeding he is still sad or angry about the insults.

In the second verse, he's basically saying that there is no use arguing with her or him because they think that they are always right, so he will just walk away.

When he talks about the tanker and the rocks he is saying that he or she has destroyed him and there's not much of him left.

Or at least that's what I get out of it
