Wrecking Ball

I absolutely agree that this is about the narrator's love interest getting scared off, just like wreckingball maniac. The girl wasn't expecting it at all, but the narrator came into her life and changed it so much. He shook up her world, he provoked such a strong feeling in her, nothing she had ever felt before, and it freaked her out. It's a love story. He swept her off her feet, but she wasn't ready for it so she tries to distance herself a little. She doesn't want to get too involved and get hurt. Maybe she even broke up with him because it was too intense, so he's begging her to stay and fight and not be scared. That it's okay to love. :)

there are three people that are involved in this story. the singer, the addressed character, who we will call the interest, and the third character who tries to talk sense into the singer, could be a friend or and inner voice...

what i think has happened here is that the interest has gotten scared of his/her relationship with the singer. this has happened because the singer has introduced different ways of thinking and a different way of living into the interest's life. fearing that things are moving to fast while dealing with something he/she isn't familiar with,, the interest decides that either he/she doesn't want to pursue anything at the moment or can't decide whether or not to pursue it, leaving the singer up in the air... confused... vulnerable. now this could be going on for a while. slowly, the singer starts to realize that the interest is moving away from what they originally started, and possibly thinking of other options that don't involve the singer. The singer, in an attempt to save whatever might happen, tells the interest to stay and fight while his friends or that inner voice that knows the truth tells him not to wait... (in the background of the chorus, i hear "don't wait" ).

so the song's about a hopeless romantic who really wants something with this other person, convincing that person to fight, while knowing that there's probably nothing to fight for.

i think this part clearly means that the narrator is with someone but doesnt really care about the relationship or he always ends up hurting the other person. and he knows that he is gonna break the girl's heart. like "nobody warned you about how i am, im gonna break your heart"

The lyrics could have many different interpretations...

To me the "I" isnt quite a person as much as a personification of a concept... It could be like when you see something that completely changes the way you look at things, and it gets in your head and shakes everything up. The reason I think that is cause of the line "your like new year." I see alot of people who have new years resolutions about somehting that they really feel that they are going to change but often do not. Many times when you see something dissolutionary you make a resolution towards change that doesn't stick.. and to me that really fits with the flow of the song.

TheSpecialistInHope is right. If you play it backward you can hear "I'm inside..."

When I first heard this song I had to play it again and again. I think the band have really developed and made a great album, this song proves they have evolved into one of the greatest bands ever.

for those that understand spanish....it sounds like if towards the end of the song you can hear Paul say "que lastima" softly in the background. que lastima means "what a shame" in english.

to me this song is as if a girl is in a relationship which is very stable, but she starts to fall for another man very different from her current partner.
