Martha was a young girlfriend of Kantner's during this period of JA. The song is simply about the pleasure and enjoyment of being with this girl done in the poetic tone of the times. It's also a pleasure to listen to!

absolutely amazing song. one of the ones that got me into jefferson airplane. one of the ones i throw in peoples faces when they try to tell me they like the new love song they heard on the radio.

could be just that shes standing on tiptoes to kiss him and hes so tall or shes sliding her heels up the backs of his legs to afford deeper penetration

I have loved this song since it came out. I played it recently for my wife who loves the Airplane but came in around Crown of Creation. She immediately said it is about a horse and I believe she is right. I think it is about a particular horse he rode when they all moved to a farm. Sure is great living on a farm! She listens for the falling of my footsteps... patiently...she sifts the hairy air thats warm and woodswept...her heels rise for me. It works for me!
