All the places we grew up,
We're playing hide and seek,
Disappearing wall when you'll sleep
Is it something we gotta get used to?
Is it something we gotta get used to? whoa.
Hurricane.
Oh hurricane.
All the millions that we marched with
It never made a sound, never made a sound on your lips.
Is it something we gotta get used to?
But we're not giving up the coastline so easily.
Oh hurricane.
Oh hurricane.
I don't wanna run,
I've been here since I was young
Whoa this city day could be gone within the hour.
Oh hurricane, what you gonna do to us this time?
Oh hurricane, what you gonna do to us this time?
Oh hurricane!
Is it something we gotta get used to?
(x2)
and it's something we gotta get used to..

An amazing song.
Correction:
"Whoa this city day could be gone within the hour." is actually "What we see today could be gone within the hour."
Indeed it is an amazing song, I really cant wait for the album!
about global warming maybe? "we're not giving up the coastline so easily" - a reference to rising sea levels, and the fact that people have finally woken up and started trying to do something about it. also "what you see today could be gone within the hour" - pretty self explanatory. i dont like athlete, but this is a really cool tune, i cant stop humming it
"Disappearing WHILE WE ALL sleep"
thats what im hearing.
SamuelHW - I think you're right about the song being about global warming... and even about events like, and including, Hurricane Katrina.
The songs ever so catchy! I sing it all the time.. sometimes I don't even know I'm doing it, amazing stuff just like the whole album!
i love the part where hes like "we're not giving up the coastline so easily" i mean it just gives me this picture of ppl coming together and not letting a hurricane(yeah i think its abt katrina and incidentally all the other ones that are hitting now) take over without a fight...ok so theres not a lot you can do when mother nature strikes, but i love the imageray
personally i think that hurricane is life and how it goes changing everything and by the coastline he means his personal boarders and his rights ...
I kinda agree with psynumb. I think that it's talking about how life can come at you fast. You never know what's gonna happen, but no matter what, you have to push past and not let it get to you. It's something you have to get used to.
I am going through an Orthodox conversion to Judaism. Unlike most religions, Judaism does not proselytize in the least bit. In fact, they actually dissuade converts. It is nearly impossible to convert to Judaism. What I am going through right now seems to be the meaning of this song to me. If there were no rewards to reap, I certainly would have walked away by now. This tedious path I HAVE CHOSEN here. I (should have?) would have walked away by now. But I simply can not walk away from something I believe so strongly in. I must be patient, wait it out, and the powers that be have my life in their hands, and I must trust in G-d and that fact.
