Anywhere But Here Lyrics

I held onto you
For as long as I could
But today, you fell away
Now what I hold
Are the memories we barely made
I stood on the edge of your bridge
Until I felt the rain, push me away
My confusion left me fast as the vertigo came

What I believed to be true
It was only a dream
That lived in me
I just projected it
Over your beautiful screen
I self medicated my way
Through this mess that we made
So I could stay
There was nothing, but I waited
I waited

This was my mistake
Broken are plans we made
So I will be traveling any place
Cause anywhere's better than

Here we rest in peace
Rubble beneath my feet
I shouldn't have followed you anywhere
Cause anywhere's better than here

Where is the space I could move
Where could I rest my head
There's nothing left for me here
It's hard to leave behind
The one thing that made me feel alive
So I slide, from paranoid to paradise

This was my mistake
Broken are plans we made
So I will be traveling any place
Cause anywhere's better than here

This was my mistake
Broken are plans we made
Here we rest in peace
Rubble beneath the feet
I shouldn't have followed you anywhere
Cause anywhere's better than here

Its about a man trying to hold onto someone he loves but in the end they kill themselves. ("I held onto you for as long as I could but today you fell away.") He stands on the bridge the girl killed herself on and then jumps himself. ("I stood on the edge of your bridge until I felt the rain, push me away. my confusion left me fast as the vertigo came"). Then as he is falling he remembers the relationship and how much he cared. ("I self medicated my way through this mess that we made... There was nothing but I waited") but also sees that the way he saw it wasn't how it was. ("what I believed to be true it was only a dream. That lived in me"). then he realises how bad the relationship was. ("this was my mistake") and how he wishes he hadn't killed himself ("Here we rest in peace. Rubble beneath my feet. I shouldn't of followed you anywhere because anywhere is better than here."). And in death he finds he isn't with her ("Where is the space I could move.Where could I rest my head. There's nothing left for me here") And he tries everything he can to escape from his choice and that he has to let her go because she is gone. ("it's hard to leave behind the one thing that made me feel alive. This was my mistake, broken are plans we made. So I will be travelling anywhere because anywhere is better than here")

hmm.. not bad. Not my favorite song, but I love All the Same and What Are You Looking For. All the Same seems to be getting really popular. It's strange that hardly anyone has commented on these other ones....

IN this song I believe this guys girlfriend broke up with him and he did'nt expect it, but some how blames himself. Even though he worked so hard to keep the relationship stable but it just crumbled under the presure of being "perfect."

i feel that this song is about someone who really really liked someone a lot.. who held on to something that was really not there (what i believed to be true was only a dream for as long as they could. but they finally realized that this "hell" they are going through is all because the one they care about doesn't have those feelings in return. they eventually let go and find paradise because anywhere was better than where they were before. they finally come to the conclusion that like that certian individual was their biggest mistake and all they want to do now is leave.

From what I understand from what shim has said is that he is a man standing on a bridge about to commit suicide because the only woman he loves has just pasted and he see her at the bottom of the bridge and as the chorus with emma singing that is the man feeling once again close to the women he once loved, and all this is happening the couple of seconds it takes him to kill himself.

Seems to me like Shimon had a few bad relationships...or one really, long bad one.

The thing I get out of all of his songs, is he speaking his mind and heart after all of these years (ahh, for the love of music). The man could be his personal pyschiatrist, psychologist? Po-ta-toes, po-tat-oes?

My Interpretation

Awesome song

The bridge- I would interpret this as a symbol that would represent his closeness to her. He wanted to be there for her but she pushed him away. I say this because it's "your bridge" not "a bridge" Also it can be conveyed that the emotional pain of breaking up was like falling off a bridge.

Here we rest in peace- The start date and end date of the relationship. "We" are dead in the sense that the relationship between us is.

Projected it over your beautiful screen- He is questioning how good things really were between them and isn't sure if he was with her because there was actual compatibility or if he just kept telling himself there was. Beautiful would be there to say that he still didn't hate her.

Anywhere but here. I've always liked this band and this track. The lyrics are poignant.
