This song is everything that is going on right now for me. I guess you could say I'm the girl in the song--I've even said "You gotta love yourself if you can ever love me" to my boyfriend, who is a wonderful, sweet guy, but who seems to really be suffering from a lifetime of low self-esteem...he's gotten better since we started dating, but sometimes everything crashes down on him and it all starts up again. At times he becomes avoidant and won't tell me things because he knows it will hurt me--and it breaks my heart even more. I still love him with all my heart, but it's so hard with everything, especially since it's a long-distance relationship. I don't think he was aware of the song at the time, but he had told me that he would do "whatever it takes" to make the relationship work, even though he thinks I deserve better than him...

I can't wait to see him in a month--it will be my first time seeing him in eight months, and I miss him so much. :( He means the world to me...

This is exactly how I feel.

It is clear everyone agrees on the meaning of this song especially if you've lived it. Strongly effecting anyone who can relate to the lyrics, the feelings that fill your head and touch your heart are made even more profound by the emotional way it is sung.

you really can't love somebody if you don't love yourself...the guy in the song needs to love himself before he can love her the way she needs to be loved. and she's willing to give him the chance and he says he'll do whatever it takes.

I love this song. I'm in the opposite situation. My partner just recently ended my relationship and it wasn't mutual. I keep hoping that he'll realize that he made some sort of mistake and turn everything back around. He never let me inside and never told me how he was feeling. Only time will tell though...

it's pretty straight forward. the guy was in a relationship and he blew it. now he realizes he will do anything to have her back. i can relate to this. i was with the most amazing girl i could ever ask for. however, a string of events that happened to me, beginning with a torn up knee ending my senior year of football loward my self esteem and slowly began turning me into an asshole. she finally had enough and ended it. needless to say i was torn up with this. life is full of lessons, however, sometimes it takes us losing things to learn. i have realized what i lost and i will do anything to make things right to hold her in my arms again. i realize now she means the absolute world to me, i can't live w/o her. i will do anything to have her back. unfortunetly, things like this also takes time, but ill give it as much time as it needs.

It's about this relationship where the guy probably has a low self opinion of himself. The part of the lyrics where she says "You gotta love yourself if you can ever love me" pretty much sums up the guy's situation. Now she has broken up with him and he wants to change and will do whatever it takes to make that change so they can stay together again. Jason sings this with lots of passion and sincerity which make me think that this guy who's done wrong is genuine with his plea for help and change. I hope there's a part two to this song which can tell whether this guy can change and clean up his act.

Like most of Lifehouse's work, this has to do with life...it's basically a guy [persona] hoping for a second chance...and he basically blew it....but he wrote this song.

I love this song. It's really simple and straight forward, but I'm still really intrigued by it. Brooding, isolated boy meets girl, loves girl, but doesn't let girl in, finally she gives him an ultimatum: if you want me you have to let me in, he lets her know she's worth "letting in" through this. cuteee

I'm surprised by the lyrics of this song. Unlike the other Lifehouse songs, this has simpler to understand lyrics. But whats more surprising is that the song still hits the listener. By far, I think that this is the best song in their newest album.
