I'll Keep The Change Lyrics

Covered in dust
Outside your cage
The people you trust
Lock you away
The blood in the dust
Spell out your name
You know that it is
Your price to pay
This is your chance
To break these chains

So, where did it all go wrong
Everything happened so fast
How could we both believe
That this could ever last
And if you're not moving on
You can have the past
I'll keep the change

One way ride
Out of this grave
Into the sunlight
That melts us away
The shadows at night
Kept you awake
Haunted by love
and our mistakes
There is still time
to catch that change

So, where did it all go wrong
Everything happened so fast
How could we both believe
That this could ever last
And if you're not moving on
You can have the past
I'll keep the change

Follow the pieces of my heart
back to the place where you are
To remind myself of how far I've come
And I emptied all these tears that I saved up in a jar
Until these memories got dried up by the sun

There was still time
To catch that change

So, where did it all go wrong
Everything happened so fast
How could we both believe
That this could ever last
And if you're not moving on
You can have the past
I'll keep the change
You can have the past
I'll keep the change
You can have the past
I'll keep the change

This one has a pretty obvious meaning, the chorus hardly needs translating:

"And if you're not moving on You can have the past I'll keep the change"

They broke up, and he's getting on with his life, while she's still in love with him, so he's saying. "Fair enough, you can want it all you like... but I've moved on, and I'm better off without you"

"Follow the pieces of my heart back to the place where you are To remind myself of how far I've come And I emptied all these tears that I saved up in a jar Until these memories got dried up by the sun "

This is looking back at all his memories of the relationship, and how he has grown since they broke up. The last lines are probably reflection of all of the good and bad times, and the realisation that he's a lot happier without her.
