Go Places Lyrics
Yes, a heart will always go one step too far
Come the morning and the four corners I see
What the moral of the back story could be
Come with me, go places
And a heart will always stay one day too long
Always hoping for the hot flashes to come
For the glue to dry on our new creation
Come with me, go places
Come hell or full circle
Our arms fill with miracles
Play hearts, kid, they work well
Like classics play aces
Stay with me, go places
Once more for the ages
Yes, a heart should always go one step too far
Come the morning and the day winding like dreams
Come the morning every blue shade of green
Come with me, go places
Come hell or full circle
Our arms fill with miracles
Play hearts, kid, they work well
Like magic, play aces
Stay with me, go places
Once more for the ages
Come one now, come all ye

Tales from the back pages
From somewhere, en scena
Deus ex machina
Good morning, Christina
Come hell or full circle
Our path blocked but sure we'll
Make records, then set them
Make copies, win races
Stay with me, go places
Once more for the ages
Come the morning and the four corners I see
What the moral of the back story could be
Come with me, go places
Always hoping for the hot flashes to come
For the glue to dry on our new creation
Come with me, go places

In response to edwartica, Dan also mentions a Christine on the Destroyer song "Painter in your Pocket". Also the phrase "Deus Ex Machina" is latin for "god out of the machine" and is a literary term used to describe a character, event, or "act of god" that is used to bring the story to a completion, usually in an unsatisfactory way for the reader. However, i have no clue what the "Encida" is that is mentioned immediately before. It's still some badass wordplay though.
On another message board it was remarked that the line before "deus ex machina" might be "somewhere en scena", a latin theater phrase that would fit well with the following line.
The 3/4 time really adds to the cinematic effect of the lyrics; the whole thing sounds so classic! One of my favorites from the album.
I think this is the most accessable song on the new album thus far. I LOVE how Kathryn and Neko's voices intermingle on this song! I wonder if the Christina mentioned in this song is at all related to come crash from AC Newman's "The Small Wonder." Though that was Chrtistine, but...
Then again, it may just be the Contessa syndrome.
Yes a heart will always go one step too far And a heart will always stay one day too long Always hoping for the hot flashes to come
O dear god. ;____; I might have a heart attack soon. Those words are so true and so prettyful.
This song has a great Irish ballad feel. The lyrics are nice and complex, without being bizarre or pretentious
It seems pretty straightforward, lyric-wise - she's exhorting her lover to come with her on adventures out in the world.
NPR says that the guy who wrote the song wrote it for his wife, Christina, but had one of the women sing it because it sounded much better with her voice.
I hear the line as "From somewhere, Encina", to rhyme with "Deus ex machina" (not that it has to be a perfect rhyme). Some creative googling came up with The Fiesta of the Virgin of Encina in Spain, which falls on the same day as Neko Case's birthday.

Good morning, Christy:

The lyrics are... what's the word I'm looking for, sweet? simple but sound good. I like all the voices together on this. It sounds like an adventure, come with me.. go places!
Isn't the one part "Come head on, Full circle"? Or is it "Come hell or full circle"?
