i love this song. reminds me of my gf leaving me after 2yrs. its like this song was written just for me. every line i can relate too. helped me realize i can move on and ill be just fine.

the lyrics in this song are RIDICULOUSLY amazing with regard to poetic devices. assonance, consonance, repetition, alliteration... it's really crazy.

*intro -repeated "all" (and "call" has the same sound) -same structure with "writing all my thoughts"/"broken all my bones" -structure repeated "you it all "

*verse 1 -the girl doesn't BELIEVE HIM that he's saying he's not a FRAUD = paradox -the paradox that the fact that he won't pretend everything is fine is what makes things not fine between the guy and girl -consonance "fraud/fine" -consonance "here"/"home"

*chorus -following again = repeating something already unoriginal/tired -swallow/spit

*verse 2 -"out of legs to stand on"+"stand here and fight" -entire mess of assonance and consonance with "these old habits die so hard"

*chorus 2 -killing me/killing time (amazing)

*bridge -changing locks/change you

i think its about a guy whos girlfriend has cheated or done something awful to him, and she wants him to stay but he just cant

There was an article in AP magazine on Silverstein, and Shane meantions that his 7 year relationship with his girlfriend ended, and I really think this is about her. Like the line "you gave it all up, you threw it all away" Or it could be about breakups in general.
