Billie Jean (Michael Jackson cover) Lyrics
She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Gonna dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round
She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Gonna dance on the floor in the round
People always told me be careful of what you do
Don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
Be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
For forty days and forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand
Her schemes and plans
Gonna dance on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
Do think twice
She told my baby that's a threat
As she looked at me
Then showed a photo of a baby cries
Eyes would like mine
Gonna dance on the floor in the round,
People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
Do think twice
I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Gonna dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Gonna dance on the floor in the round
Don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
Be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand
Her schemes and plans
Gonna dance on the floor in the round
Do think twice
As she looked at me
Then showed a photo of a baby cries
Eyes would like mine
Gonna dance on the floor in the round,
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
She came and stood right by me
Then the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son

Man, Michael Jackson really messed up this song when he covered it. Cornell's original is so much better.
Just kidding. :p
Seriously though, not a bad cover. I'm surprised Cornell performed it though... I wouldn't envision MJ as one of his influences.
Michael Jackson wasn't one of his musical influences. He said after recently listening to the lyrics of Billie Jean, he was fascinated by the dark tone and inner meaning in the song, so thats why he covered it.
He ruined two great bands? Bands that he started, and was frontman too, bands that had run their course for a combination of nearly twenty years? I did love Soundgarden, and Audioslave but don't go all angsty on us!
As for the song, I really enjoy this version so much more than the pop version. Its a depressing song, about life changing events and Chris delivers it well.
His voice is so soulful. A sustained mournful wail. Not many can pull it off. Mad props.
I think that Cornell's version is more fitting in the sense that the sad tone reflects the mood of the lyrics more than the pop version from Micheal Jackson.
As another user Quoted:
'The song's lyrics refer to a real-life experience, in which a mentally ill female fan claimed that Jackson fathered one of her twins. a young woman wrote a letter to Jackson, informing the singer that he was the father of one of her twins. Jackson, who regularly received letters of this kind, had never met the woman in question and ignored it. The woman sent more letters to Jackson, claiming that she loved him and wanted to be with him. She wrote of how happy they would be, bringing up the child together. She pondered how Jackson could ignore his own flesh and blood(his "child")The letters disturbed the singer to the extent that he suffered nightmares.
Following the letters, Jackson received a parcel containing a photograph of the fan, as well as a letter and a gun. Jackson was horrified–the letter asked that the pop star kill himself on a certain day and at a specific time. The fan would do the same once she had killed their baby. She wrote that if they could not be together in this life, then they would be in the next. To his mother's dismay, Jackson had the photograph framed and hung above the dining room table of their family home. Afterward, the Jacksons discovered that the female fan had been sent to a psychiatric hospital.this female came in mind when he wrote billie jean. he talks about the court case(for 40 days and for 40 nights, the law was on her side)
the lady shows alot of interest in michael, and beleives he is the father of her child (I said dont mind but what do u mean, I am the one)'.....
So it totally makes sense that Chris Cornell sang this song, as he had basically the same thing happen to him, with a deranged, psycho fan several years ago.... I just saw him perform last month, solo, and apparently he does not sing this song anymore. It probably brings back bad memories for him, and his family. Which sucks because I would have loved to see Chis perform this one
Audioslave split up???????????
oh my god wireless89.
Ok. I love the cover, I really do; but is the solo needed?
There's an acoustic version that really will blow people away when they hear it.
This is one of the best cover songs. The blues tone really works with the lyrics. MJ's version is good too.
