Summer nights and long warm days
Are stolen as the old moon falls
And my mirror shows another face
Another place to hide it all
Another place to hide it all

And I'm lost, behind
The words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by

Sleeping with a full moon blanket
Sand and feathers for my head
Dreams have never been the answer
And dreams have never made my bed
Dreams have never made my bed

And I'm lost, behind
The words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by

Now I want to fly above the storm
But you can't grow feathers in the rain
And the naked floor is cold as hell
The naked floor reminds me
Oh the naked floor reminds me

That I'm lost, behind
The words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As the seasons roll on by

If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you crawl into my world
And take me worlds away
Should I be beside myself
And not even stay

And I'm lost, behind
The Words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by, yeah yeah

General CommentI know the answer because I asked him!!

I was at his concert last year in Paris and luckily close enough for me to shout out to him " what's Seasons about Chris?"

This is what he said, more or less, after a good 10 or so seconds.

'Seasons,.......it was written in a time when Seattle was moving so fast..... and I just wanted to slow it all down.'

Epic moment, and then I missed half the song when he played it as I went to the bathroom. Yep, I am an idiot,

General CommentIts about not being able to find the right thing to say to the person you really want to say it to, and how time slips by and theres nothing you can do about it. I think it is not only saying this, but i think it is saying how it may already be too late, and he missed the opportunity he should have took long ago, and now its gone.

General CommentThis song is soo wonderful. Mr. Cornell's voice is so evocative, the tears that come are always followed by a smile by the end of the song. Such a wonderful release of energy every time. I am very grateful to ever have heard this song, it has been a good influence on me. Mr. Cornell strokes the most beautiful sounds from the strings of his guitar in this song. the lyrics are so amazing,
" If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you crawl into my world
    And take me worlds away
    Should I be beside myself
And not even stay" That verse means so much to me. The lines each are so powerful and bring three situations to mind, and present a challenge to me every time I feel myself wanting to recede into shyness. So good.. And he mixed it too.. What a talent. IMHO a truly wonderful and beautiful song from every angle.

General CommentI think this song is about the drive to do what you want to do in life, and the frustration that sometimes exists when you fall short of having the path or the motivation to doing that. The lines, “Dreams have never been the answer, And dreams have never made my bed.” Indicate to me that doing, not dreaming, is what gets results. By not taking the charge of your life, you will be left behind as seasons roll on by.

General Commentits about not being able to tell the person you like your true feelings. you get lost behind the words you want to say to them and time just keeps on rolling by all the while you cant say what you want to say. he is constantly being reminded of his lonliness(naked floor is cold as hell.......it reminds me)

    General CommentPERFECT PERFECT PERFECT SONG

Chris Cornell's so poetic. GENUINE POET.

it could be a self-centered piece, like having trouble with the self or something...

writing about the writer's self is not so commendable but i can't deny that this song's the greatest song about oneself, for me.

General CommentMy favorite song lately. It’s been absolutely stuck in my head. This song is about depression and the critical eyes everyone turns on themselves when the realities of life steal away the “summer nights and long warm days” of youthful exuberance. It’s about being stuck in a rut of self-doubt and self-loathing to the point of wanting to withdraw from it all. The beauty of this song is in the major key (hopeful) portions rising out of the circular, minor key portions like he is reaching out to grasp a connection to someone who could “crawl into [his] world” and understand his pain, and pull him free of it before the “seasons roll on by”. The “dreams” he refers to are the fleeting pleasures of fame, or praise, or self-medication. The “cold hard floor” is the realization that at the end of the day, these are not real and he is still the same self-critical introvert who has a hard time finding connection. But he is still hopeful!
