Black Sheep Lyrics

You’ve fallen captive to what you thought would save you, what you thought would clean your slate.
You’re in the thick of it now and you have swallowed the hook.
What’s done is done.
We’ll continue on with or without you.
Pain must exist in order for healing to survive.
Neither one will ever serve their purpose alone.
You’ve fallen in love with a dream you’ve never had.
You’ve fallen in love with a surreal way of living.
To late to wake, farewell and good luck to you. See you at the end.
Too late to wake, to lay too waste.
I’m throwing in the towel.
This is my goodbye.
Don’t worry. We saw through your trickery, and were coming out alive.
See you at the end.
What was once your life is now lifeless. What was once your life is now your jail cell.

Yet again, another ABR song that to me sounds like a person astray from God. Someone who put their faith in the wrong things. Someone who tried to drag everyone else along with them. And now their life is a prison because they have made a mess of it.

I might be wrong, but I think this song is targeted at someone who only cares about himself and his philosophy that he is the only person that matters.

The line "pain must exist in order for healing to survive. Neither one will ever serve their purpose alone" is saying that life can't always be one way. You gain some, you lose some. You have to compromise sometimes because life isn't a one-way road.

But this person has been so in love with his belief and narcissism that it's too late and everyone has already given up on him.

It's about losing a friend. He stabbed him in the back. Now... "What's done is done, we'll continue on with or without you."

and thus become a "black sheep"

This is why bands should have a deep relationship with God before starting a band. They need to put God first and actually pray frequently.

i don't think its talkin about starting a christian metal band and falling away from Christ.. because to me if that was the case then i don't think they would be together anymore.. if they were struggling with staying close to God because of their band i don't think they would sing about it.. i think they would be ashamed about it.. thats just my opinion i could be wrong.. i just kno the song rocks :)

lol i didn't start listening to august burns red til a couple of weeks ago.. i had a friend put both of their cds on my ipod and when i was goin thru i heard this song and was like hey this might be my favorite song.. then i looked at the name of the song.. black sheep.. lol that just so happens to be one of the names of my band's songs.. ours is talking about how christians are the black sheeps of the crowd.. how we're supposed to stand out from the others.. lol but i thought that was funny.. anyways God bless all

Just because ABR hasen't fallen into the category of Christian bands who have strayed away from God does not mean that they can not write a song about the bands that have! If you listen to the entire album of Messengers you can easily pick up on the conviction theme that is apparent in each song. ABR is sick of seeing Christ centered artists fold to the ways of this world. Period.

"Pain must exist in order for healing to survive. Neither one will ever serve their purpose alone." That's a tough pill to swallow.

the interlude in this is a little BTBAM-esque, anyone else agree?
