The Balance Lyrics

All these ideas keep swimming, running through your head.
Quick, we’ll drown them with this fix.
The dose to stop your shaking, the one to silence your voice.
Just take it and you’ll be fine.
Calm, relaxed, obedient, just the way we want you.
Your thoughts are ours to manipulate.
Your actions are ours to control.
Your opinions are a thing of the past, so tilt your head back and swallow this.
You’ve become a real team player, a real class act.
No one cares about your identity. Open wide, here it comes.
This prescription makes you perfect.

I think this song is about society as a whole silencing those who have different opinions than they do. The medicine symbolizes forced values and ideas.

"All these ideas keep swimming, running through your head. Quick, we'll drown them with this fix." That's basically saying having ideas is a bad thing, so we'll wash them out for you.

"Your opinions are a thing of the past, so tilt your head back and swallow this." Again, this is saying that you're not allowed to think on your own anymore, so you have to be one of us.

It's satire, mocking today's society saying that whenever somebody has different ideas or thinks differently, we give them a new drug that "sets them straight." An obvious exaggeration but still pretty funny and a scary thought of what might/could/is happening

Clearly about drugs.

the lyrics in this song are amazing, i dont know how he comes up with ways to write like this. but i read the song like hes condeming society for subdoing people who have ADD by giving them ritalin. they "the man" have basically said people who have more energy or a different learning style dont fit the "mold" we want so lets pump em full of drugs to get the behavior or life style we want out of them.... " The dose to stop your shaking, the one to silence your voice. Just take it and you’ll be fine. Calm, relaxed, obedient, just the way we want you." he goes on..."No one cares about your identity. Open wide, here it comes. This prescription makes you perfect. " him saying prescription is what makes me think hes talkin about ritalin not illegal drugs.

Welp... I suppose this song could be about what adventFLUX said it was about. Although, it seems to have a reference to some disobedient child or something like that. And that society today doesn't let parents discipline their children. So, instead of just spanking them because they're unruly, we have to give them drugs because doctors are always trying to make excuses and say children have so many problems, but a good wooden paddle to the ass would fix things right up. Just a thought.
