Back Burner Lyrics
Convictions to the back burner. Remembering what’s really important isn’t so important after all.
Gather all your possessions, and smile because you’ve got it all.
Still that empty feeling won’t go away. Your puzzle’s missing one very essential piece, and I know you’ll keep looking in all the wrong places until it’s too late.
Slip on the ice again.
When did you become so cold?
Living for the here and now never made so much sense.
You think you’ve got all the time in the world, but this could all be ending now. How far down will you go before it’s too late?
Slipping on the ice again, you’ve become so cold.
Lucky for you rock bottom is in sight.
Your wake up call is set for now, and the trail you have followed has come all the way to the end.
I just hope you survive the crash.
Gather all your possessions, and smile because you’ve got it all.

This song is implying how individuals in today's society are wrapped up in their worldly possessions and miss out on the real life that Jesus Christ has to offer them.
Straight to the point and nothing but the true fact. I agree with your statement. But I would like to add that people also get wrapped up in their egos and are constantly trying to impress others so they become popular.

It make sense to me now! It's about materialism and how it only temporarily fulfills boredom and apathy. "Gather all your possessions, and smile because you've got it all. Still that empty feeling [apathy] won't go away. "
Not too sure about the parts in between but uh, " I just hope you survive the crash. " The 'crash' could mean the realisation and depression suffered from the materialism? Or it could literally mean a crash and that he hopes that the survivor only just survived enough so they can now see that they should change their ways or something. Sort of like a born-again Christian.
I DO NOT KNOW. It made more sense my mind, heh. GREAT SONG nonetheless.
When he's talking about possessions, it remindes me when Jesus told the one rich man to sell all his things and follow him to get into Heaven. This may be referencing to that.
Gotta love the chinas and crashes <3
i love this song the breakdowns as so heavy and im liking the lyrics as well
I think this song is about trying to make things in this world make you happy but none of it will amount to anything (sounds cliche?). They're saying gather everything you need, car, big screen tv, whatever YOUR possesions may be and smile because you have them, thats all you can do, until you feel the need for something else, which will be a never ending urge for more. It wont satisfy. At the end of the song it sounds like the person they're talking to gets in a car wreck, they hope he survives the crash so he will be saved from his life of never ending fulfillment. Great song on a Awesome album. The end gives me chills every time, especially the first time i read it.
"i hope you survive the crash!!" ---- i think the crash is representing him crashing into rock bottom ("lucky for rock bottom is in sight..." he says earlier)
("lucky for you rock bottom is in sight")
its about just living for money and worldly things and it leaves you empty because you're not living for God. the guy "becomes so cold" and turns bitter and keeps living for himself and worldy things until he hits rock bottom
i just got out of a relationship and i view it as a broken one. like all the things the other person once cared about, they dont care anymore. "when did you become so cold" like the person had a suddon change of heart
"Living for the here and now never made so much sense. You think you’ve got all the time in the world, but this could all be ending now. How far down will you go before it’s too late?" its as if, when they re together, the person cares. then they start to fall apart and the person gos back to the things that always bring them down and just forget what matters in life. "Remembering what’s really important isn’t so important after all"
when it says the crash at the end, i think its metaphoric for the end of the realtionship and how the person doesnt have much time to save it because its all coming to an end. whats more imporant, them, or all the things that dont matter in life like maybe money, drugs, another person to be with... thats the question of the whole thing
