Sounds and Silence Lyrics
Sirens racing, heading northbound on the freeway
Tragedy has happened early in the morning today
Best friend, my best friend's gone for sure
Never gonna get him back
Spend a lifetime trying, trying to be someone
Trying to get things right
Now I'll never get to show you
Never forget him, we'll never
He'll never be gone
Never forget him, we'll never
He'll never be gone
He fell and he hit the ground
Never even made a sound
Never even made a sound
Pacing and waiting in this empty hospital
Dying in wait
He desperately clings for life
Suddenly I'm facing the fear that I've wasted time
(Hold on, don't let go yet)
(Not now, it's not your time)
My best friend, my best friend's gone for sure
Never gonna get him back
Is this really happening to us now?
I believe it is
Just please forgive me
Don't forget me
Is this really happening to us now?
I believe it is
Just please forgive me
Don't forget me
Tell me, doctor, we've got a heartbeat
Tell me, doctor, we've found a pulse now
Tell me, doctor, we've got a heartbeat
Tell me, doctor, we've found a pulse now
Now the heartbeat's gone, now the heartbeat's gone
He fell and he hit the ground
Never even made a sound
Never even made a sound
Never forget him, we'll never
He'll never be gone
Never forget him, we'll never
He'll never be gone
He fell and he hit the ground
Never even made a sound
Never gonna get him back
Is this really happening to us now?
I believe it is
Just please forgive me
Don't forget me (x3)

Pacing and waiting in this empty hospital. Dying in waiting, he desperately clings for life. Suddenly, I'm facing the fear that I've wasted time. (Hold on, don't let go yet. Not now, it's not your time.) My best friend, my best friend's gone for sure. I'm never gonna get him back.
This really sound like a best friends suicide, and the singer wishing he could have helped more than he did.
"Is this really happening to us now? I believe it is Just please forgive me Don't forget me"
Kinda gives me the thought that the lead singer is in shock because the best friend didn't tell him about his problems, and committed suicide out of the blue. "Please Forgive Me" being the lead singers way of saying im sorry for not figuring it out.
No matter the cause, it's an amazing song.
No its not about a suicide at all. That's very clear. His friend was obviously in a car accident and died in his arms at the hospital.
How in the world have you come up with that conclusion?

From the first quoted line alone, we can tell that he fell from some sort of height (aka suicidal jump from a ledge, bridge, or building). Just please forgive me seems that the narrator or singer feels as if he wasn't there to help the person in the song and that maybe the said person had come to the narrator seeking help in the past. I'm terribly sorry if you feel like i'm slapping your opinion down to...
