Saved by the Bell Lyrics

I cried for you, I cried for you
I cried for two, I lied for you

Saved by the bell on your own carousel
Now who can tell, if you'll love that man as well
Now I'll walk down our great lane

I died for you, I died for two
I'll live for you, I'll give to you

Saved by the bell on your own carousel
Now who can tell, if you'll love that man as well
Now I'll walk down our great lane
Now I'll walk down our great lane
Now I'll walk down our great lane

My initial thoughts are that this is something about an unwanted pregnancy, or something that was stopped "just in time." Why would the singer cry for "You" and then cry for two? I died for you, I died for two." (Did he pay for her to have an illegal abortion? This was 1970 or around there.

I'll live for you, I'll live for you, I'll give to you. (He lied for her too)
Hmm. She is still alive.I think he is guilty about something but I have researched on the web for the meaning of this to no avail.

Strange lyrics, but I hope somebody has an idea.

My Interpretation

@juie i think it means if i can live for you i can give my life also for you - life - i'll live for you , i'll give to you - or devote to you

i'll cry for you, i'll cry for two - for one reason or two i cried for you maybe i lied because i cried for me too- so i cry for two reasons or more

Song from a Baby's point of view? Interesting take actually...

This guy's girlfriend took off with another man. It was a rough breakup and he took his own life in grief. "Saved by the bell on your own carousel..."- He let her off the hook, the guilt of her breakup with him and with her crazy, mixed up whirlwind life...the carousel. The "bell" was his suicide, the note he left, the voice mail..the whatever. Now he'll never have to know if she ultimately loves this other man just as well. He went to his death thinking she wouldn't love him as well, but now he'll never have to live with being wrong. I've based this opinion on several misconceptions I initially had with the lyrics, but I think it still works as such. I always thought the last lyric of the chorus was, "Now, I walk down "The Great Lane"...the great "highway" to the pearly gates of heaven. I died for you. I died for two..."two" being he and the woman or the woman with her new man, either relationship being possible here in meaning. "I lived for two" (I lived for you..the two of us together). "I'll give for you." (I'll give my life for you..for your total happiness with another man. I'll take myself out of the equation, because I can't live without your love. The song has some darkness,( sadness if you will,) as do most ballads. I've always like the ballads of song.
