The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You're my savior when I fall
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
Na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na

Fast Car

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
This song is like a gorgeous oil painting hanging in a museum. It just never gets boring or dated. This is a timeless and beautiful ballad decades later. It's true... love is very personal and private and the fools should shut up and leave two lovers alone.
This is just a sweet, simple, melodic love song. Loveliness.
Simply the finest love song ever, I never tire of it. There's over 400 cover versions and none (especially the Take That version) come anywhere near close it equalling it.
First song of Bee Gees that made me fall in love with'em.
Love this song! To sum it up...I've done my part to make it known where I stand but now it's your turn to show me-how deep is your love?
@Cecernr well said.
This song is gorgeous. It always makes me think of this guy I know and about how complicated the relationship I have with him is.
For some reason, the lines "And you may not think I care for you, when you know down inside that I really do. And it's me you need to show," really resonate with me. It's a really underrated song, in my opinion.
This is my all-time favorite love song.
:) ???
It's probably the most loving and romantic song out there. Ironically it played on 9/11 in the plaza while the buildings were burning and collapsing.
If I may ask, how do you know that this song played on 9/11 while the towers were burning down?
Have you a bionic ear? Bulshit...
youtube.com/watch

its at the 6 minute mark of this video...he was right.
This is the most romantic, loving song out there for me.I'm taken away and think of the one girl i truly have feelings for,and just picture happy images of us together and such when this song plays.
