Greetings to all! If you're reading this then kuddos for liking Blues Traveler :) I was quite surprised that this amazing song did not have any comments or interpretations. The lyrics here and with all of the tracks by this amazing band, are so well written. Keep on jamming folks!

--I will assume that here he is referring to a person in his life whom which he has put on a pedestal. Possibly a lover or simply a close friend.

I know you're in a hurry but there's something I must ask Do you ever get lonely climbing up so high?

--He wonders if they feel lonely or alone since they are able to climb so high in life, in a way that appears to be effortless to him and the outside world.

If you do not want to answer me I can understand why

---He knows that his question may spark deep unsettled feelings and he understands if the answer is one they wish to not share...

Are you running for heaven, or are you running fast from hell? If that's your intention, you aren't doing very well

--This part is tough to translate... Their life may seem like heaven but he knows it could easily be a hell. If they're running from hell then their intention is not being carried out. Life in general can either be a personal heaven or hell...

If I told you a secret, would you want to know more? I've got a challenge I hope you won't ignore

--I love these lyrics. He wants to know if after he conveys a secret of his, would they want to know more? If they are compelled to ask more, then this shows their interest in his soul and the untold side of him.

--Such a gorgeous chorus. He's challenging or requesting someone in the world to win the battle he can never win with himself. He's hoping that if someone is able to do this so he may be free from all the personal constraints inside himself. And if they accept the challenge he is promising to open up his soul and mind; showing them the whole of his being..

Sometimes I get this precious view And the grand scheme shows its face When all is in harmony it can be such a lonely place These lines are depicting deep, wise, insightful epiphanies that are experienced throughout life. Moments when everything may seem transparent. However, moments like these can be lonely because it's only in your mind that these exist. The melody is sad and sweet, and the dance I do is fun Yes, I love this precious view but I'm starring at the Sun It's like watching a movie about a game you won't get to play It seems to go on without me, and I just gotta get in the way For as pretty the picture, I share this view alone Will anyone stoop to grasp this gauntlet I have thrown?

--I believe these lines continue to describe the epiphanies we experience throughout life... The sun is used as an analogy because they can be blinding and one must look away to see "clearly" once again.. The singer describes how his visions are ones he doesn't believe he'll ever get the chance to live out. He's asking for anyone to join him in trying to view his visions as he does...

--These lines return to the initial person mentioned at the beginning.... He's asking this person to please hurry and find him. The illusion of being invincible refers to feelings of courage beyond his normal realm, and he fears the actions he may pursue, if he is not intercepted by his mountain climber.
