Representing Lyrics

I'm representing a face of light
I'll take your place, it's only right
I don't hesitate this time
I'm only seen 'til I arrive
I'm reappearing and I'm holding back
I steal this field if I relax
You've never moved the end
You'll shake out of yourself again
Revealing the face that's frozen cold
Hey y'all
Raise the rain the other way
Hey y'all

Speculation, of course, but I feel like this song is about a certain person...I don't know how to explain, other than what a Taoist calls a "Master"

He or she is a face of light (clear enough, I think), who doesn't hesitate with issues that arise (within his/herself or other people). Only seen when he arrives...which is like the Taoist concept that when a master has done his or her work, it is not known through boasting or bragging. In fact, you may never know that anything's been done at all.

This person is obviously powerful (I steal this field if I relax), and is doing things that a regular person can't conceive (you've never moved the end) because a regular person always goes back to regular problems, like depression (you'll shake out of yourself again).

I wouldn't be surprised if he's talking about himself, someone he knows, or a spirit he knows.

I'm only coming from one perspective, so I wonder if someone else has a different meaning for this song...

I don't know how relevant it is to your speculation but at the time of recording, John was very in touch with a 'spritual side', or so he put it.

Sorry, another thing. The last two lines...revealing a face that's frozen cold, could reference a master-like-person bringing someone out of a bad (cold) state of being into a more enlightened, good state of being. I'm less sure about this line.

Raise the rain the other way is more obvious I think, referring to reversing a bad thing. If rain falling = bad things, then raising rain is reversing that.

Sounds like its about.Him taking the place of Hillel.
