River In the Road

I guess a river in a road is a metaphor of something that unexpectedly breaking-in into your life and interrupting them, so you must fight it and get it out of your way, but you know you are not able to beat it, you can't just stop the flow of the river by yourself so you're sitting there, giving up and waiting to die, though you want to believe that someday, someone will avenge for your memory.

the fast approaching monster marching in a row are the mindless zombies that have been breed lately due to the brainwashing that's been going on lately. HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ERA VULGARIS

this song is a message adressed to future generations or his children, or us the fans (the ones that get it at least a little bit). avert the children's eyes. DUH!!! tell your children the truth and don't let them fall in the same pattern.

he's fighting right now but nothing he can really do except warn us to get away from it and do it differently in the future. and avenge him i guess... why not?:D

There's something amazingly haunting about this song.

I love this song, it's one of the best on their new album in opinion.

It sounds like it's about someone in the middle of a violent situation and they're trying to save their families/lover. They know they can't escape so they remind those who have not to forget them and avenge their death later on.

yeah haunting is a word i would use to describe this song both sonicly and lyricly... i guess its the only song w/ mark lanaegan on backup vox off of era vulgaris...

The "parade drumming" and the "marching in row" makes me fuckin think of an army or something. He wouldn't use this if the song hadn't got something to do with.

Do not let the children know, but get revenge?

Sounds like a dead soldier remmembering his sacrifice and how it was just forgotten, as his body rotting in the vine. After he snaps out of traveling in memories, he asks for vengeance.

"Grab what slips your mind & what your memory won’t hold"

I can be like people forced to run from their homes, leaving their memories. But that's not something you'd think while running from monsters marching in a row... So maybe its the dead soldier trying to make people remmember him.

I'd say self-sacrifice yes... But it seems like there's no choice, and the person sacrificing theirself is quite bitter about it.. But still wants some sort of revenge..

the last line is "Get sweet revenge, with my blood river in the road"
