On Letting Go Lyrics
For your futures sake,
I’ve got advice I’d advise you to take
Don’t keep betting,
“well, its gotta light me up sometime”
You lost your turn
“All I wanted to be was one of your children”
See how clean the water is where you are,
wash off your handcuffs
And know the hidden messages you hear,
they aren’t real.
You tricked your mind to feel.
“All I wanted to be was one of your children”
Are we even now? We are unrelated
If blood is thicker than water
Then you’ll drown quicker than we intended,
And you’ll know where you can find us in the end
So we can begin again.

as i first saw it i thought it was about a guy who's talking to his father who abandonded him and now he's to old for him, he doesn't need him any more Don't kill me if i'm wrong... I just started to listen to circa like no joke three weeks ago
Hmm. Thats not at all how I follow this song. Ready?
This song is about realizing god doesnt exist. Its not about the new testiment, unless it is by saying its not true. Lemme explain.
"For your futures sake...I've got some advice i'd advise you to take...dont keep betting well its gotta light me up sometime" --- that is refering to religion. You cant keep betting that its going to make you a better person or something by you attending. You lost your turn.
"All I wanted to be was one of your children" one of the biggest give aways...because even though he realizes god doesn't exist he always wanted him to...he wanted to believe he would be one of his children...but he has come to terms with the fact that he cannot be a child to a unexisting father.
Some other lines to support my theory.
"Wash Off Your Handcuffs" Reference to religion/beliving in god. Being "tied down" to the religion.
"Know the hidden messages you hear, they arent real, you tricked you mind to feel" --- BEST LINE EVER. That is in part the reason I myself am not religious. here they explain to you that "faith" is nothing more then you tricking your mind to feel something that isnt there. So you have purpose to your life. BRILLIANT LINE.
"We are unrelated" -- meaning we are not gods children. Since god says we're all related, we're all from adam and eve.
well said :) and i agree

I partially agree, but it's humans pushing their beliefs on other humans that is the whole point this song is making. It's unjust and corrupt, and God or not, we exist, and if you are reading this you can understand that and even ponder about it, and well, what ever the case, we need to make the most out of our existences

I agree, but the part that still seems to confuse me is when they say "If blood is thicker than water then you'll drown quicker than we intended"

Any ideas? Because I have no clue. :/

While I actually do agree with the Atheistic intentions of the song, for me it takes on a paternal meaning. I've molded the lyrics (as I think most great songs have the ability to be malleable) to include a mostly absent and perhaps negligent father. I haven't the time to elaborate, but I just wanted to introduce this idea.
I just realized something about all the songs from on letting go. The remind me very much of Fight Club. There are too many examples of what I mean to list here, but I really think there might be a coralation. Think about it.
it wouldn't surprise me. Fight Club is a fucking amazing movie.

this is from me just listening to it all night, so sorry if i get something wrong, feel free to correct me and its still being determined i guess if its even circa. but it's on the tracklist, so.
i think that this song talks about a child who wants attention but comes second hand to something else... "Don't keep betting -well its gotta light me up sometime- you lost your turn" Maybe a gambling/ drug Addiction problem? "See how clean the water is where you are, wash off your handcuffs" Maybe its saying that this parental figure doesnt have to hang around this bad thing thats happening... and then "And know the hidden messages you hear, they aren’t real. You tricked your mind to feel." Alot of times when people have addictions they think they have to have...

If blood is thicker than water, Then you’ll drown quicker than we intended- maybe this person (not the narrator) has an alcohol problem (water?)... And you’ll know where you can find us in the end, So we can begin again.- like saying when your ready to stop we will be here to help. and of course "All I wanted to be was one of your children" and back to the beginning a child inferior to an addiction... i have no clue what its exactly about but this is my thoughts
yeah my bad i knew it didnt sound like him
this is circa survive. lol.

umm, ya. if you wouldn't mind fixing this, that'd be awesome.

okay so im posting this about everyyy song off their new album: THE ALBUM IS ABOUT THE NEW TESTAMENT. theres a different story behind each song start with the sorrowful mysteries =]
hmm maybe this could be about his bad relationship w/ his mom? thats kind of what i got out of this song especially the part "All I wanted to be was one of your children"
This is how I see religion fitting around this cd.
i think the symbolism and metaphors used throughout this cd are towards the confusion that sets in when you turn your back to the truth to blindly follow a belief..."all i wanted to be was one of your children"...It's almost like a call to a God that they now know isnt there....And this whole cd is "On letting go" of their traditional beliefs of how they were brought up.... Just my view of it.
i dont this there letting go of there beliefs its more like on letting go of this shitty world and all of its worldly materials in each song they show how they believe in god but in some cases second guess but still want to believe because its better to believe in something you know thats there that will love you than nothing at all
