its about god and religion and struggling to belive or about love at surface value and how we have no hope for it because whos really ever held on to it, i had a real long one typed about religion but ill put this for now

everyone says this song is about religion but i still feel like it's just about love in general. about not believing in love, after having a bad relationship. the 'greatest lie,' the lie your father told you, is the idea of true love. "Desire, I would try it either way" "We believe in something invisible" aka love "We laugh in the face of love cause nobody's really there" that's just like further talking about shitty relationships come on

okay so im posting this about everyyy song off their new album: THE ALBUM IS ABOUT THE NEW TESTAMENT. theres a different story behind each song start with the sorrowful mysteries =]

Religion again maybe?

this building smells so familiar (hes tried so many religions and theyre all the same, or a relationship that hes had these feelings before in the situation or jsut a situation in general thats similar) i had thought this sense was lost (he thought it was different this time he coundt feel nemore) and in a daydream i imagined my house (he imagined this for what he wanted to be or how he thought it would, or maybe how a church should be) and all my fathers sense of strength was lost (it ended up not being like that if its religion maybe hes saying since church is gods house he coudnt see where god could be involved with that church hes absent of energy there)

and this is all we have find me a place to begin (what hope do we have without some higher form because we all need one because were going to die and what happens afterward is more important than this life) if i could get this feeling to end trembling idle hands holding me there (maybe he wants this feeling of not having a good to be gone and hes afraid of the relationship he could have also, but hes trying to maintain this hope of faith) we laugh in the face of love cause nobodys really there nobody's real... (it seems like hes using love as a metaphor for faith saying we cant do anything about it were powerless because we cant find god so hes not even real, or not there for us) desire i would try it either way we believe in something invisible... (he wants it so no matter whathe would do anything for that relationship with something he cant see)
